*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia 6650 (RM-324 6650d-1bH) NAM 3G 850/1900

Mine did the same thing the first day or so. For me I noticed it when using AT&T's GPS app. Taking the battery out for a few seconds and restarting the phone seemed to cool things down...

Just a note: On a new AT&T contract these (the Nokia 6650) are going for free at letstalk.com with the activation fee waived. I'm not sure if they also wave the renewal fee, but you might want to check. The offer expires March 30.

Also the usual disclaimers about the extra lock-in that resellers apply to these phones applies. In particular, these guys will only allow complete returns for the first 7 days (you can exchange for up to 30 days). If you cancel service for the first 6 months they will charge you a fee on top of the ETF that AT&T will charge you.

But if you know you are going to want AT&T service either way, that is a pretty good deal.

Until today. I was trying to look up a number in the phonebook and got some message saying the SIMCARD read had failed. I turned the phone off and when I turned it back on it booted up until the main screen came on. Then it gave me a missed call message and while trying to get that to go away I accidentally hit the camera button. The camera app started, then the phone re-booted again. Then it was fine, but I think I'll stop by the AT&T store on Mon and see what they think. And I still haven't got that cable I ordered from Hong Kong 2 weeks ago yet.

Has anyone else experienced a problem where the volume of the speaker for alarm/ringer/music drops to a lower level even though the volume level says it is set to full? The only way that I've been able to get it back to normal is to reboot. Slept through my alarm because of it.

Thanks,

Matt

I succesfuly installed Nokia Maps 2.0 on the 6650. I don't know if this has already been discussed but until now I had Maps 1.2 thinking that 2.0 did not work on my phone. The file name was Nokia_Maps_2.0_3204_3.1.sys ; on the download site this corresponded to the version for the 6110 Navigator (6650 is not listed). I also tried with Nokia_Maps_2.0_3204_3.2_u.sys and this one did not install.

Well, I returned the 6650, and they told me about the "Restocking" fee. I took care of it, even with the plastic coverings but I guess it can't be sold as new. Even so, they never mentioned the fee until _after_ I returned it :crying:
If I can't find a 6290 NIB, I'll settle for the 6267, which although is only S40, is not a bad little device at all. Probably better odds of finding that one here in the states anyway. Just can't seem to be settled with anything other than a flip :(

I have to say that it seems like AT&T/Nokia really dropped the ball on this phone... they took what could've been a great phone, and just made it adequate... it's a shame... If Nokia were to sell an unbranded version through their website, or if it was able to be unbranded and pull all that AT&T junk off of it, it'd be a pretty good phone...
For a long time now I've been hearing how great the Nokia web browser was and how it can view flash etc., but it's pretty much unusable on this phone with all the out of memory errors... I've gone back to using Opera Mini (new version 4.2 out now) exclusively (except for email)...

So anyone have any luck with store.ovi.com ? It seems to think there's nothing there that works for the 6650, even ringtones! I suspect that telling it you have an N95 will work, but I haven't tried yet. Anyone?

Not a bad backup to an N series or if you're in the mood to use a flip phone for a few days/weeks.

Although I prefer slider/bar phones, I occassionally like to use a flip design, and not many come along in the s60 variety

I got this phone as a backup (while my n97 was in for repair). Its biggest drawback (imo) is the lack of available ram. I would have opera mini open and try to open garmin and it wouldnt be able to. Kinda pathetic. On the bright side the gps on it is amazing, locks in under 10 secs. And dont even get me started about that stupid gps button.. I've pressed it countless times by accident..

@razrluvr,

To the best of my knowledge, 3rd party apps like Skyfire and Opera Mini needs some phone specific tweaking even if it is Symbian s60 capable. If yes, I am not surprised that it didn't go well with 6650. Pls correct me if I am wrong.

I had read somewhere that the charging port is on the lower right, so it makes it difficult to hold the phone and talk while charging.

I wouldn't mind seeing some pics of the keypad. If it's as bad as it sounds, might be a deal breaker for me. Also, since I work in an above average noise environment, having a low ring may also be a deal breaker. How is the actual volume on the earpiece while on a call?

Strange thing, I used Magickey to disable the camera key (I pressed it sometimes by accident), and now I can change the volume but only by 3 times more or 3 times less, if I push 1 more then it makes the mute thing.

Im using X-plore and jtskman and I've erased some things to have more memory available, now X-plore tells me that I have 14MB available but I think thats ram, as the info system tells me now I hae 5mb available (I think thats for apps). By the way, does anybody knows why x-plore shows one more unit? (C:, D:? E: an Z:?) I know C: and E: (memory card) but D:? it says it have 14mb available.

Do you know any method to save emails and sms in the memory card?
