Nokia E61: BlackBerry Client

Then there is probably a problem with your own setup.

Are you using Lotus Notes or Microsoft Exchange? If you are using Exchange, how is your Outlook connected? (Cached Exchange Mode or Direct Exchange)? You can try it when you are in your corporate network, without VPN. I tried it both at work with Direct MAPI connection to Exchange and at home, which uses Cached Exchange Mode (using RPC over HTTP proxy). Both worked fine (I am running tests, as part of my job, on different devices).

i certainly appreciate your help, and not to be obtuse here, but i don't know why it would make any difference how my outlook client was connected- we do use exchange, and BES 4, (and goodlink as well), but why would outlook running in cached mode matter? i thought the device was talking directly to the BES...it does not appear, because unless i have my machine connected to the network, i'm not receiving work emails....

OMG, it was there, I just refreshed browser, it is gone... Wonder what happened. If anyone wants it, PM me your email address and I'll send it.

Hi guys, i was thinking of getting the e61 because it has blackberry connect. My work uses blackberry right now but for some reason they're giving me a hard time about the e61 because it's not on their approved devices list. Can i get a e61 and use it on t-mobile but tell them that i have the 8700 or some other blackberry device. Basically, my question is, is there a way for them to know that i have a blackberry capable device that's not in their approved list. Can i just lie and tell them i have a tmobile device from their approved list but then it's really the e61. your thoughts???

Well, see my last post on page 4. My conclusion is they are same, but andresalazar said they are different. I am waiting his reply to see what was his file size and md5 checksum.

I also installed fresh release and software version is still 2.1.0.63

Outlook has to be connected via MAPI, that's the crucial part (either direct mapi, or rpc over http). BB Connect Desktop relies on that to connect to your Exchange server to do the initial setup, including activation (activation stores hidden messages in your mailbox, which contains your settings and such).

Once all is setup, the device no longer needs the BBConnect, other than to alter settings.

So I have a question that I am unable to find here.

Does the BB Connect work with Cingular's Personal BB Plan?

Also, is anyone else having problems or configuring BB Connect on their work/corp laptop. Every time I run the config setup it tells me that this services is not setup on the server.

I just want to use this for my personal email accounts and also have my 1 work email flow to my E61?

Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

During the brief time this week when I have BB Personal plan w/BB Connect on my E61, I can confirm that it works nicely. But, there is always a but, the issue is that BB Connect hogs the GPRS and I can't get the browser to access the net. Not even through a second non-BB APN. I have a feeling it has something to do with the persistant packet data setting but when RIM/Cingular refused to help me resolve a BB server issue (can't add more than 2 email addresses to BB) because my E61 is not supported, I gave up and went back to POP and IMAP.

One more thing, because you need a second APN for wap/web browsing and you will need a separate MEdiaNet data plan. So the saving on $29.99 plan is offset by the extra cost for MediaNet plan.

Not the case with T-Mobile, existing Blackberry plans have access to the wap.voicestream.com (now also an html AP in addition to a wap AP)

Sidenote, anybody else having issues with downloading attachments? it always says "cannot display table of contents" or "cannot display full item"

Can anyone who has Rogers and uses BIS hold my hand and walk me through the entire setup process on the E61? ive been able to set it up to the point where it says "web client" on my standby page but i dont recieve any emails, and when i send emails, they dont ever show up at the recipient. I input my pin and imei thing into my BIS profile and it was accepted and i sent a service book (whatever that is) and the e61 recieved it, but still no activity. how i was able to make any progress with this i have no idea, but if someone could help me get my emails (and send them) I would be greatly appreciative.
