Nokia E61: BlackBerry Client

Awesome! A lot of people will prolly end up getting the E61 based on your observation. No kidding: Previously, BB Connects' inability to access GPRS functions like surfing & chat while connected to BB chased people away .. As for ActiveSync: don't you have to set this up via the PC and push to the E61? (Only cortado seems to offer this as a service via their non-english site). In any case, IMAP works just fine for me. I'm now waiting for an always-on chat client before getting another e61 (IM+ beta can't do this). Cheers, Sabesh.

Yeah but that normally includes access to blackberry.net APN only (I might be wrong). My Rogers Blackberry plan also includes data, but only for Blackberry connection, not for accessing their other APNs.

rx381, did you read the Blackberry Users Guide for Serios 60? It's in the same download section where you found the sis file. Read page 4, "Before you setup". You need to install PC Suite on your computer. This will facilitate transferring the .sis file to your phone.

I have had my e61 for about 12 hours and I am just about to turn it off and put it up for sale on ebay. Great little device BUT the BBconnect is just not all there. #1 and #2 are the deal breakers for me. I need PINs also the option to delete on server or phone with every message is critical for me so that I can mangage all of my email accounts from my handheld. Also my 8700 just feels a little faster, the e61 is a bit sluggish and clunky with its multiple layers of apps menus. I will say that i was VERY surprised by how much I enjoyed using the joystick I really did not miss my thumb wheel at all.

Anybody able to get the adobe PDF viewer to install? I keep getting unsigned software errors so it won't install??

well i installed and configured BlackBerry Connect on my device but when I try to run the browser I get an error that the maximum number of connections have been exceeded. I can then disconnect the blackberry connection and view webpages then.

If thats the case, I will sell my E61 and go back to my 8700g.
On my 8700g I have Blackberry Messenger, Verichat and IBM Sametime for instant messaging client. The E61 has no good instant messaging client. On my E61, JonnyChat works ok but is not an always on chat client.

If any one is using T-mobile and bb connect, I had a problem going on the web also. My email would work fine, but using the browser didnt work. I called t mobile tech support. They actually helped me resolve the problem. It was a problem on there end. Uder t-zones I didnt have full access. I was limited. But with bb plan you have unlimited tzones. So once they got that fixed . I havent had a problem yet. When you want to use the broswer use the wap.voicestrean.com apn.. or just use the built in t-zones gprs connection.

ok guys.

its very easy

If you use BES its as easy as installing the .sis file and pluging your phone up to the nokia desktop client.

make sure your internet connection is wap.voicestream.com and make sure you have no other way of your browser to connect not even wifi or it will bring a error

I have downloaded the PDF Viewer from the Catalogs (under Tools menu), and I don't recall any cert issues. With that said, you can go to Tools - App Manager - Options - Settings - Software Installation and set it as All and see if that helps.

I haven't experienced any slowness with the device so far, but I agree for a new user Symbian menus can be overwhelming.

I am used to the joystick, from using Pocket PCs for a long time and I prefer it to click wheel any time

hey guys, i just installed the blackberry software on my e61 using pc suite. I'm trying to set it up for bes with my work email. my bes dept has a few questions since it's a new product and they don't have a lot of info about it specially setting it up

1. can you set up bes on this phone without installing nokia pc suite?
2. my work requires me to install their blackberry desktop manager, can itwork with this nokia phone?
3. what version of blackberry software is on the e61? i need to have 4.1 or higher.
4. any more info that you guys can suggest that i'll need to tell the bes dept?

how do you browse the companies enterprise directory? I can nowhere find it. I was able to do lookup email addresses but I would like to know how to find out phone numbers. thanks

Does anyone know why it does not recieve the emails consistently to the phone? Is there a setting i have to change? I have every on already. Everything is set to on all the time.

I managed to get the pdf viewer to install downloaded to comptuer and sent the sis file over to the e61 via bluetooth. Was unable to get it to install OTA.

The e61 is much slower than my 8700, it is also not nearly as robust with its messaging capabilities. It just does not compare to the 8700 as a mobile messaging device IMHO. BBconnect has a ways to go.

I am actually a former HEAVY symbian user (UIQ not s60) and I absolutally LOVE Symbian and UIQ, they just need to get on board with a better BBconnect app.

This totally depends upon which PPC you have used , I guess you have been using PPCs back from 2000, lol. (My latest PPC is a UT Starcomm 6700, and works much faster than 8700.

But the above are all personal opinions, realisticly, comparing a Treo 650 to 8700, is comparing apples to oranges anyways.

Not true for T-Mobile. I previously used a Nokia 6822 and only had one APN for both connections. Now I have a Blackberry APN, Blackberry2 APN and a TZones APN. I access data through the T-Zones APN (wap.voicestream.com) even while BB is active. Same price $20 US for both.

I have tried to surf with the active BB APN and I get a blank page.

Not sure about the 6700, but even the HTV Universal is slower than the 8700 (The Blackberry and Palm O/Ss are made for speed). Switching screens, launching apps and everything thing else is simply faster with the 8700. The older WM2003SE devices were at least faster than WM5 devices in launching fresh apps Sabesh.
