Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

No, it DOES vibrate strongly when I hold the power button once, then nothing until it's had time to go to sleep again, or whatever. Absolutely no other physical sign of life. I'm going ahead and contacting Nokia repair today. It's still under warranty sooooooo... (my N75 never gave me this much grief!)

Meh!

yea that's what i thought at first, but then i never got that number of satellites ever lol but if you just look at the signal for each satellite and compare it to the number, it averages just about right. guess it's a coincidence on my end.

yea i was switching pretty fast. on the second picture where it shows 8. it was like that for a while so i took a pic.

I thought I had a speaker problem on my second 5800 nam, but it turns out it was corrupted music files. I transfered them from another phone, instead of taking them off my computer.

A quick delete of the existing files and reload from my computer and now the sound is fixed.

Nokia service could not "fix" my first one, so they replaced it. I guess flashing to the new firmware was too much work. :hehehe:

Hey Map, be glad you aren't overpaying for mine:

See ya 5800!

I am still looking for a Bold. :(

As far as I could tell, share online is only accessible through the shortcut button on the top righthand side of the display.

I finally gave in and bought my 5800. The advertised price on Dell's site is $312, but that is without taxes, so it came out to about $330 total. There was free shipping 3-5 Business Days with an
Estimated Delivery Date: 4/23/2009

Strange that is more than a week. Its Dell so I assume I will get it in a reasonable time. On Google Shopping there are several advertised prices much lower, I only trust Buy.com, NewEgg.com and I assume I can trust Dell. Dell had the lowest price, but then I don't know if the other prices were without taxes.

Has anybody bought from online dealers advertising in the $275 to $300 price range?

i updated to v50. everything runs pretty good. still slower than my v40 cfw though. the one problem i had was with 3.04 maps. it caused my phone to pretty much crash whenever i used anything that uses wifi. but disabling wifi as a positioning method seemed to fix everything so far

I just dont get all those people whining over 40.. update. If you, just like me,own 5800[not a Nav edition]why can't you just change the the number, update and then change it back. This wholle operation takes 15 min,it will not affect your warranty and any smart 10 year old can do that.Do you really prefer to whine on the forum?

Hey, man... I'm with Roger on this one ... I owned a Nokia 5800 euro version right when they came out and I really really liked it after about a WEEK of using it. I had an E71 for a while and just went back to a 5800 (this time a NAM, yayy!!!) and man, oh man. I love this phone. It's just what I needed and I forgot what a great browsing experience it is. RogerP is right, you just have to get used to HOW exactly to touch the phone to make it work the best. It's really not hard at all. You will find yourself using the tip of your nail, most likely, for screen taps. Anyways, I'm typing this entire post using my SU-8W and my 5800 nam.... and there is NO other setup for me.

Well it looks as though the 5800 owners are the only people that cannot use OTA updates, I was told on the N97 thread that they have it on that phone, and remember NOKIA said that they have nothing to do with that!!!!! WHAT A JOKE!!!!! NOKIA is beginning to SUCK big time!!!!!

I also always wondered if there was a way to use energy profiler alongside sports tracker. Lets say you wanted to track your commute home from work and you hit several weak/dead spots with reception. Energy profiler tracks signal and power drain, and if it could be joined with a sports tracker export, you could plot your exact area of town or commute and see where weak spots are.

Technically this can be done by just starting both apps simultaneously, but its not that elegant.

just updated. don't know what really changed. more ram on start up. the im. that's about it. my browser crashed just trying to login to hofo so that wasn't good. oh well, i'll play with it some more tomorrow during class.
