Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

I picked up one today from Craigslist, I couldn't decide between the N79 and N85 and time ran away and I wanted a phone to play with over the weekend.

This guy bought a couple of phones from Dell when they had that insane price for a short while.

I have reset the phone and formatted the memory card. I don't have any opinions yet but I had a hard time web surfing. I will at least give it a week.

If I don't like it I'll give it to my ex wife or rather separated from wife.

Some people seem to like it a lot. I will download some movies tonight and put some music on it. Btw, how do you guys navigate using Opera mini. I haven't installed it yet but I will tonight.

Well, I changed my product code (again :) ) and DL v50....I noticed a few things...
I dont have to battery pull when I swipe to answer, I had that problem.
I can change volume now on the music player from the homescreen..I couldnt do that before..was weird, but now I can...
I did notice the settings for the camera...sharpness, etc look different (maybe I didnt notice before).
The music player is diff too I had to remake all my playlists..no biggie
It was worthwile ....Tom

If you run NSS it will read your product code before you change it. However, the default NAM code should be 0577454.

I made a post about the update procedure here (click). Check it out if you are unsure of the process.

It was a mistake. One of those Nokia "oops" moments when things pop up that should not. If you check again you will find the TV app is now gone (or it will be the next time App Update refreshes).

As long as you stick with either T9 or the fullscreen QWERTY, the only thing I've needed the stylus for is removing the SIM card.

I configured the built-in IMAP client with gmail.

But I deleted it very shortly afterwards.

I did that because the phone retains the e-mail headers forever.

You can't just clear the headers which eventually becomes tedious to scroll though.

It would have been nice if you could just download new e-mail or the latest 10 or 20 e-mails.

It is just as easy to just use the gmail app and leave it running in the background. Even easier in fact. It will auto-update your e-mails and provides more options than the built-in client.

I've had the 5800 for 5 hours now and it is the most annoying device EVER to use. Ughh I'm hating myself right now. Something said "try something new" so I choose this over the N85? :disappoin

My device build quality is great IMO for a all plastic device. Lock Switch=Brilliant. BUT, I find it almost impossible to navigate without getting annoyed by non responses. I know some areas require a double tap response, its not that.

Can anyone tell me how to get my share online flickr account on the homescreen like other s60 devices?

Should I give the device a break and give it a week? Seems like it just needs some getting used to.

Rogers hasn't released a firmware upgrade for the Rogers Branded 5800 since the 31 update. so if you wanna upgrade you will have to unbrand adn change product codes.

i know i dont. when i fat finger i hit the back arrow. the only ting the bothers me about the keyboard is the fact that you have to switch back and forth between symbl and # and the alpha. but not too bothered.

1: You should be able to just hit options and then search and search for addresses

2: Not sure whats goin on with the GPS data, maybe your connection is weak and its not gettin the data correctly?

3: No clue about the car bluetooth

4: At the moment there aren't too many apps for S60v5 (which the 5800 is, you were correct) but hopefully once the N97 gets launched development for S60v5 apps will skyrocket.

5: Sorry, only one at a time, I know what a waste of space on that beautiful, huge homescreen!

Probably the best place overall for 5800 info is dailymobile.se forums.

There you will find a list of product codes and info on debranding and flashing new firmware.

I ordered the 5800 NAM from NokiaUSA.com but turns out the phone is backordered with no expected resupply. I got tiered of waiting so I ordered the N79. I dont know what it is about old style candy bar phones but this phone was just calling my name. The other reason is that I was checking out the Nokia 5230 and it looks like the 5800 is going to be replaced fairly soon with this phone.
