Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Well if Nokia were to ever offer 5800 owners flick scrolling, and I very much doubt that it will ever happen, the clever thing to do would be to allow users to set the sensitivity.

I have to go through so many steps to get to a persons tect message screen before I get ready to type.

Is there a shortcut or a software program that will make it less painful that doesn't take so many steps???

My device type is RM-356 running 40.0.005.C03.01 version. I checked for firmware update and downloaded 50.0.005 version on the phone. The update process put up a progress bar then the phone restarted and still has 40.0. There is an error message saying that the downloaded firmware is incompatible and the firmware can not be upgraded. When I connected my phone to the PC and tried to upgrade the firmware, the upgrade process failed with "Internal Error", although the firmware has been downloaded on the PC and is in the process to be copied over to the phone via USB. My phone is not hacked, nor is it modified in anyway. I have been using Nokia tools to manage the phone and only downloaded apps from OVI store.
Has anyone experienced the same symptom? Could that be a problem with my phone or a problem with Nokia update process?

Well I got my 5800 in a few days ago and with all of the mixed reviews I didn't know what to expcect. But I have to say this phone is just plain fun. It makes browsing the web a wonderful experience in my opinion. The beautiful large screen, the touch screen, the stylus, I love it all. Great build quality as well.

My only complaints are that the camera is as bad as my e71 and the speakers aren't very loud at all. As a matter of fact the e71 speakers are way louder. Kind of odd for a music phone.

I ordered an n95 8g at the same time in order to try both of these large screen devices out and sell one of them. The n95's camera and speakers are awsome.

So I am in a jam here as I really don't know which one to keep and which one to sell. Two great devices. I may have to keep both of them. Both of them have great rf and talk quality. It's a shame you couldn't put the n95's camera and music player in the 5800 and throw in an fm transmitter and you have my ultimate phone.

But back to the 5800, this is a great phone for the total multi media experience. Yeah it could have used a dpad and the UI is a little confusing at times. I got used to the 1tap 2tap thing in 5 minutes. I actually like it because it limits accidental selection of something in the menu. All in all, a keeper. I can't put it down.

I've been waiting pretty patiently but for Nokia to take this long to release the update for the other NAM versions is inexcusable. I am really sorry I bought this 5800, for lots of reasons, but lack of support from Nokia is one of them.

Has anyone installed truphone on the NAM version? I am constantly receiving connection issues when trying to setup my account or create a new account.

I do not have the latest v40? firmware as I have the nam version.

Btw, if you want even better youtube (or so they say) experience, open applications and
open up app. update and there should be a flash lite 3.1 upgrade.

Yah, that's a valid point, it's just that the bit*hing is rarely accompanied by anything like "but, hey, I still love the phone"...and it usually ends with a ranting "why can't they get anything right".

That said, what are the correct places to post the wish list for improvements/fixes so that Nokia sees them?

my 5800 did not have the seal either. i asked the same question and everyone else didnt have the seal so it seems normal. this is the first nokia phone i've ever purchased that did NOT have the seal. so dont worry your phone should still be brand new and not tampered with. just check you dont have any mysterious finger prints on it or any missing items lol. :clapping:

thats why i think the n97 will be a different beast(i hope) with the dpad and a qwwerty and kinetic scrolling it just makes life so much easier. :buddies:
