Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Ah, firmware updates for carrier locked phones have to come from the carriers.

For example, all the european carriers had to release the firmware updates for their 5800s.

The NAM v21 update is for unlocked phones. Because there is no carrier in between, Nokia releases it directly for us when it is ready.

If the update is out that means your carrier has access to it, BUT they still have to release it for you.

Thanks sillieidiot and collegea.

I ran the set up wizard again. I picked up the ATT Internet as an Internet destination. So here are the connections I have after running the setup wizrd.

1. Internet destination (2 wifi and 1 AT&T Internet) I prioritized my wi-fi APs over AT&T
2. Multimedia msg destination ( 1 access point called AT&T MMS)
3. WAP services (wap cingular and AT&T Media Net)

Some of the apps like Messaging client asks you to specify a destination but applications like Opera Mini makes choose an access point rather than choose a destination.

Obviously I need to keep changing withing app, what access point I need to use depending on where I am.

I know this had been a tricky question to answer because of Nokia's past, but do you think they will eventually release a v40 update for all NAM product codes? I'm wondering with the release of the X6 if Nokia might end support for the 5800 to shift resources to the new phones. Of course, the old N95 still got updates several years after it's release.

for opera you can go to the application manager and make the default access point the internet destination and it will choose on it's own. That's what mine does

dhawktx,

Thanks for the info. I will try contacting quickoffice directly and see if they can hook me up. Otherwise I may just take the 50% deal and get the full version.

you prob can change the product code to the unbranded one and then get the update. its always better to debrand your phone anyway. i havent done this in a few years so i dont know how it will go. but you need to get NSS nemesis software suite or something like that. then change the product code with that program to the new product code. then just connect to nokia pc suite and software will update. search around this forum for how to do it and also use google. sorry maybe someone can help more.

@ laverdure, too slow. Look up at post #1608.

After using the new v40 for a little while I have noticed something that is REALLY ANNOYING! When I click on a contact and then the new message icon instead of just opening a new message, it now asks me to choose Message, Audio Message or Email, and then when I pick Message is asks me which phone number to use instead of just defaulting to the mobile #. I am really hating this, and I have not found any way to get it to just open a new message like it used to. Glad I decided to try this on my backup phone. This could be a deal breaker for me.

When I tried it, Opera Mini did not load the page at once, it kept loading as I scrolled closer to the end. So I guess you did not scrolled to the middle of the book. I could not do it several minutes. Also it's not a long book. Also, what drives me nuts is when you read a threads for example here at HF and then want to go to the top of the page to go a level UP (i.e. to Forums->S60), you have to flick all the way back in ALL browsers, instead of just using a scrollbar. Why is it not something a user can select as an option?!. Adding a control is several lines of codes...

I've been adding lots of usermade ring tones on my 5800XM and lots of music files to, i never made a dedicated play list for my music files and i noticed that the music player also adds the user made ringtones on the playlist.. is there away way to prevent the music player from doing this ? ( maybe putting the ring tones on a certain folder so that the music player does not add it ? )
