Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

During the address, Mr. Kallasvuo also highlighted the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music devices as a great success: "Consumer response has been well beyond expectations, and it has the potential to become our most successful device ever. We estimate that this smartphone alone accounts for around 20 per cent of all touch screen devices sold worldwide. It offers unique value for those who want to experience their music on the move, particularly when combined with our innovative Comes With Music service."

^ On the product white label outside the box:

GSM bands should be 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS bands should be 850/1900

At least that's what they say in Canada

The European model won't have UMTS 850 afaik but will have 1900/2100 or just 2100?

Some balogne like that anyway.

If you're in the USA, I'd recommend an X6 over the 5800 because it's not a whole lot more expensive and you'll have 16gb right off the bat, as well as a much better camera and a capacitive touchscreen like the iPhone.

I've been using this v40 from a Latin American product codefor a couple of days.

Custom version: 40.2.005.C03.01
Custom version date: 31-12-09
Language set: 16

I wonder what the main differences are? I tried NSU and there still was no update for 0577454 product code. I'm usually given the option to reinstall, but not this time. I'll just wait for it to be released for that code.

Edit: Ok, I've just read post #1608 also. It negates the last three sentences of this post.

I'm running Opera Mini 5 Beta 2.

In the application manager under "Suite settings", I'm not allowed pick a destination for this app, instead I'm being asked to specify an access point in use. It doesn't let me select a destination instead a specific access point and it provides me the entire list of access points to choose from.

BTW, I use the Messaging client which came with the phone to access my gmail and Worldnet email. In the Incoming and outgoing mail configuration settings, there is an option for Default connection and a list of all access points to choose from. Yesterday I chose the default connection when I was at home, everything was good. The minute I got into the car and start driving I couldn't access these 2 emails. I got an error message saying WLAN not found. So I had to manually change it to AT&T Internet. So keeping a default connection did not help.

1 more observation, The Exchange client does not even offer a default connection. I'm forced to pick a specific access point.

Since I'm paying for unlimited data access to AT&T, I'm going to make AT&T Internet connection as a default for applications asking for a specific AP.

There are two different firmware out that 5800 nam hasn't received yet. One is v21.0.025 which has been out since April and the second is v21.0.0.101 which just came out like 2 days ago.

My 5800 has started some display problem since a few weeks ago, it's getting worse and now more than 70% of the time when I unlock the phone I get the LCD problem, just like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrcQqCqj8M0

After done some searching, seems it's a very widely spread common problem (shouldn't Nokia recall it?).

Is it a hardware or software? If it's hardware, I should have it replaced sooner.

I bought mine in March, so I think it's one of the earlier NAM, the first batch right after the NAM3G problem was sovled. Did anyone buy it later have the same problme?

There is email on the home screen, you just don't know how to activate is.
There is auto full screen in Opera and native browser, you just don;t know how to activate it.

Kinetic scrolling is available in browser, both native and Opera and in Nokia photo browser but not across the UI.
If you want widgets on home screen install Orange theme,it's similar to Samsung's widget UI.The only problem you have to sign it.
What is favorite contacts?

HoFoer's...So im eagerly watching any avail footage of MWC..I watched Rafe from AllAboutSymbian try the demo for swype. I think its interesting. Well I see this is an app on OVI store called SlideIt. It is an alternative option for the on screen qwerty text entry. I really struggle with accuracy for text. Well, I loaded and set for my 5800....while Im sure the opinions will be wide spread...Im liking it. Log into Ovi and search and DL SlideIt demo...If youve been 'at odds' for texting for your 5800...this may be an option (unless you save up for n97 mini ;) )...just sharing.....Tom

So it did for me too.I changed it from NAV 0591814.First impressions-faster all around, phone memory was close to 70mb,now its down to 37.3.Ovi Sync added in applications, kinetic seems smoother

Is QuickOffice viewer available for 5800 NAM version? I have seen earlier posts that Nokia used to include the app before. It didn't come with my NAV edition.
