Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Yeah well, I'm old-fashioned. I like to get everything I paid for, even if it is useless! :silly:

Hey, while I'm at it, do you know if a car charger is supposed to come with it? (couldn't download that from Nokia's site )

ok. I did the following to ensure that no data is used from AT&T and only wifi is used for any data:

1) Network mode: GSM only

2) Access points: Internet (Wifi), MMS (Deleted), WAP (Deleted)

How do I set wifi as the default for Google Maps, Positioning, etc?

Anything else I am forgetting, keepin in mind I don't want any data transferred through AT&T?

Yeah i can say the screen is the only redeeming quality of this phone. But i'm kinda finding it worth it for now. I dunno if i'm just enjoying it or putting up with it.

It would be an easier choice if conversations worked on this. Or just more apps in general. I still gotta try free isms though.

I installed this and I love it. I had to remove Handy Shell, that was what was causing my 5800 to freeze in black screen. It no longer freezes at all.

I don't know what you people were expecting from this phone. I have always been used to paying at least $300 more for a phone. Well I used to always pay cost and pay a fraction, but still I paid $330 for the 5800 when it came out and I was more than happy to pay that, since I sold my HTC Diamond for close to that anyway.

The phone is light, which I love. I can see the screen in sunlight, which is a huge perk. The screen is larger than most phones I have had. Its is quick, I get great speeds for the internet and I am very happy. With my Diamond, I got no service at all in Bloomingdales basement mens section here in NYC and with the 5800 I get full service.

The screen size on the N82 was a joke. The sliders on the N95-3 or 8GB were breaking left and right, and the screen on the E71 was also a joke. Ill take the 5800 over any of them any day. I wish they added the 5MP zenon camera and flash that the N82 had but ill live with the 3.2 LED.

I feel like on this site and when I sold Nokias, that no one is ever happy. I am actually happy with this phone. I never keep phones more than a month and I was happy with my HTC Diamond and this replaced it in a hot minute. I am happier with the 5800 than I was with the 3G iPhone.

I love the 3.5MM headphone jack. I love that it came with the 8GB MicroSD card. It would have been nicer it they made it out of the same material that the E71 had, but I know it would have cost more. It also could have been a fraction skinnier but its not heavy so its ok.

All everyone does is bi*ch, b*tch, bit*h. Every carrier releases a new phone every few months, unless you are HTC or Samsung and love to release a new phone every 3 days.

Every one of you were so happy when I gave you free 3 day FedEx. This phone is a fraction of most phones and I am happy for one not to drop $700 on a phone.

Just be happy with the phone and if you arent, than sell or trade it and move on. I could care less about a keyboard so the N97 doesn't appeal to me. This phone is loud, plays music well, good camera, I dont know why you have internet issues because I sure dont. I use facebook, Gravity (Twitter) and Slick all the time with no speed issues. Most of the time I switch facebook to the main site because I like it better personally.

I always kooked at the negative in phones but after dealing with client after client, I actually am happy to have a phone that looks great, and works to my liking and I am one picky MoFo. Damn, look at my signature and the amount of phones I go through.

I had plenty of issues on Windows Mobile 5 touchscreen phones. I friend had issues with the 1st gen 2g iPhone, my other buddy had issues with the BB Storm touch screen. Sony Ericsson P990i and Pi1 had issues with UIQ.

To be honest, I personally feel that Nokia got it the best overall on their first try. Its built well, enjoy it or move on. Thats just my two cents. I dont mean any disrespect. Most of you bought phones off me when I sold Nokias and other phones and this is actually the least returned Nokia since the E61.

The N81, N82, E51, N95-1, N95-3, N95 8GB and 8GB NAM all came back more than 50% of the time. Even the N800 came back in mass quantity. I just think some of you will never be happy.

i have never liked t9 or auto complete. when i didnt have qwerty and all there was was t9 i never sent txt msgs. i mean no one uses the # keys on there keyboard to type msgs. its just what people are used to. coming from the wm pda world originally with just the touch screen no big for me to use the stylus or on screen keyboards. then came the tilt and i couldnt go back. i dont like the bb key pads where its 2 letters a key. shoot it takes me several times to dial telephone #'s with words. like 1800 call att.

Verified that it works on my phone. I actually didnt know that the red end key closed the app. completely.Thought it just put you back to the main screen. Learn something new everyday :2thumbs:

So sad to say, but the missing letters on the dial pad is near the top of my list of things that make me NOT want to buy this phone. It's a shame, because that list is very short and some things can be overlooked, but not this one.

However, I read somewhere if you manually change the Theme, you can add letters to the number graphics by hand, presumably with the Carbide UI program. Anyone have first hand experience with this? If so, maybe I'll just get the phone.

I find it amazing for the 5800XM's battery to be even remotely loose, looking at the new pin and battery design i believe they did change it so it will never be loose, i guess nokia still screwed up.

free isms is great you will love it, i do on the n85 cant type so good on the 5800.↲
Does the 5800 have a zip file opener i downloaded slick but it wont open it and does any one notice a lag when typing?

I have the same amount of free ram. But my theory is the demand paging is just tricking the task manager and really that used ram is available to the OS if you were to load up multiple apps. So i think that number is deceiving and not accurate.

Even if 0574994 isn't for North America, that shouldn't matter. it is an RM-428 after all...

If it was just one instance of my phone being bricked, I would just shrug it off as something randomly happening. But when NSU bricks my phone and the phone can't boot after installing the firmware and installing the same firmware using JAF manufally downloaded from Navifirm also does the same thing and is repeatable, something's really wrong.
