New Evangelion Movie Hits September 1st, 2007!

According to Dave Williams, it is still in development right now. It's going to take alot of convicing for anyoen to pony up the dough it would take to do an Eva movie right, probably over 60 million per partner. No matter how popular the anime has been, that's a drop in the bucket compared to a full Hollywood production, so it may be a while yet.

Well there was a ten year gap between the last episode of the original Star Trek and the first movie (unless you count the 22 episode animated series from 1973). Though I kind of doubt that the new movies will spawn an entirely new generation of Eva animation.

Think of it this way and you'll realize how long it's been since the last new Eva: the ENTIRE Pokemon anime - all 500+ episodes, 10 movies, and however many OVAs/specials - has come and gone in the time since the last new Eva animation was released.

Much better. The more I hear "Beautiful World", the more it grows on me.

Is it just me, or is it Kaworu's upside-down face we see towarRAB the end of the trailer? That'd definitely be a major change from the original series, as I don't recall him showing up until episode 24.

I'm sure il like the new movie but im not expecting all that much either, though I would really love it if they followed through with the live action movie, I mean really, it's a great story, it's just the problem of finding someone rich enough to follow through with it. But I reckon it would be a great movie.

Yes, that's Kaworu. It's been confirmed that he will be in the first film (he's in the Sadamoto-drawn theatrical poster) but no one knows just how big a role he'll play. It could be nothing more than a cameo.

(Part of me is annoyed that Kaworu gets to appear before Asuka, but considering that he's one of the more popular--yet underdeveloped--characters, it's not that surprising that they'd try to squeeze him in. I hope he's more like Manga!Kaworu this time around.)

I think it would be an interesting new twist if Toji actually had some time in the pilot seat of Unit-03 before Unit-01, um...paints the town red. But with all this speculation about how the new character is going to fit in the plot, I wouldn't be surprised if Toji is pushed aside.

I really hope he gets better treatment this time but you may be close to the truth seeing how anno don`t care for him. Writers can be very clueless when it comes to char like toji and not realizeing they could be interesting if wreting in a good way.

Did people want to see Big Momma's House 2?

If people think the public will bite, they'll fund it, regardless of the reality of the situation.

I totally agree, he was too underdeveloped, maybe even in the Two recent movies "End of Eva and Death and Rebirth). If you look at the slogan "You are (not) alone." this maybe an opportunity to let Kuworu really shine

To me, it does seem kind of like milking it. For years, Anno's position was that Eva represented a very dark time in his life and he didn't want to revisit it, to the point he was angry about doing EOE and has made some rather blunt comments to whiny fanboys...now he's going on about how wonderful and deep it all is and needed to be revisited.
Maybe those are his true feelings but I can't help but feel those are the worRAB of a man under pressure from those above him or a man who needed money and saw a quick way to get it, since fanboys will eat up ANYTHING Eva.

Alot of people seem to be getting Rebuild of Evangelion confused with WETAs
live action film. Rebuild looks pretty cool.

What "man above him"? This is being done by Anno's new animation studio, the one he put together for pretty much the entire purpose of doing this project.

People can change, and if you look at his work over the years, Hideaki Anno certainly has.

True, people can change. But in a big industry like this, sometimes people will be nice and polite for publicity sake. It just seems odd that after all this time he not only wants to bring back Eva but in a way that plays up to all the related marketting.

I don't know about you, but if given a choice I would rather that a movie I make be finantially sucessful... A movie that don't sell, don't get seen.

None the less, I don't see why you would think Anno is being greedy. A greedy person wouldn't wait ten years before making a new animation of Evangelion. If the marketing is clever, good on them; that's certainly not a crime. No fan is being robbed here, Gainax will sell exactly as much EVA franchise items as people are willing to buy.

On that matter, how do you think Gainax pay its bills? Fame doesn't fill the belly. And their Gurren Lagann anime needed financing after all. Being poor and starving doesn't make an artist a bad person, but that certainly doesn't mean a successful company would be unworthy of its livelihood either.

Spoilers for the manga:
In the manga, Kaworu is introduced much earlier and he is a more sinister figure. There's one infamous scene where he kills an orphaned kitten in front of Shinji, claiming he's being "merciful" by not leaving it alone to starve to death. He's still "gay" in the sense that he's very interested in Shinji and even tries to give him "mouth to mouth." However, Shinji and Kaworu are not frienRAB in the manga. Shinji finRAB Kaworu to be very unsettling.
