New Evangelion Movie Hits September 1st, 2007!

You're assuming "later events" are going to be anything like the TV series. This will more than likely only diverge from the original as things proceed.

It might have had a place in the show but time is very restricted in a movie so they might have cut it out just to save time.

It's called "bloom" effect. For more information, see the nearest copy of "Fable".

Seriously, though, I can't wait to see what they do for the weirder ones like Sandalphon or Sahaquiel...not to mention, are they going to change the actual faces/bodies of the Evas? We only see the face once (2nd episode) and the next time it's out of the helmet, it's wrapped in bandages.

If they cut anything, I hope it'd be the "Shinji runs away" scenes. That was my least favorite episode because it just dragged forever without really adding to the story.

Well, according to official design sketches, Evas got rather featureless bodies and faces under all that armour. An EVA's external appearance is so critical to its identity that Gainax never really allowed any of them to be shown "naked". And anyway it never really mattered; what's striking about an Eva is not how alien it looked, but is instead how human it appeared to be. It has five digits per lirab (fixed error. ), fingernails, eyes, a mouth.

Unless the new movies somehow desire the Eva's physical appearance to influence major plot-points, I doubt that aspect will be explored.

ADV was still looking for funding and my hunch is that after Transformers makes a gazillion dollars this summer they'll find it as Hollywood makes a rush on giant robot movies akin to the comic book rush after Spider-man and X-men.

I'll second that. But can they really make such an ending and have fans except it. Plenty of people think eva is deep but can't explain why. To me thats just a sign that its very confusing. Oh well, one more time, hey.

What new characters?
This is the first time I have heard about that.

If there is going to be new major characters, we would know about them by now. As it is, it would already be a monumental task to fit in the majority of the regular TV cast.

^It's not that we want to or don't want to see it in live-action...It's that it's already been promoted as coming out in live-action format for some time now...I remeraber reading a full magazine spread on this over a year ago...SO I just kinda found it odd a new animated movie is getting pub with the live-action movie in the woodworx now...I'm with you though as I'm sure some Michael Bay clone might wanna put some fireballs or flames on EVA-Unit 1 ...

Yes and many more people think it's deep and CAN explain why. Just because you couldn't understand it doesn't mean it's meaningless. I sure hope Anno didn't decide to durab it down to please his less sophisticated critics.

If Anno was really that interested in "milking" it, why would he have waited 10 years to make another movie? Prior to this movie, Eva consisted of 26 episodes and 2 movies released over a span of less than 2 years. And now 10 years later, the original artist decides to remake his masterpiece with a fresh perspective. Yet some people act like he's milking it to Gundam levels. Call me in 30 years when he's closer to 500 episodes and 20 movies.

It's kind of like the philosophy behind Star Trek and the sequels. The first series is classic but you just have to stop with it or else it will get old. Whe the movies came and TNG people watched it for the nostalgia and got something completely different out of it while the fans got resolutions to many classic characters and even more questions. The philosophy behind this is stopping to take a break from evangelion for a few years while planning on how it will become better. Then when the new movie comes out people will go crazy and love it for both nostalgia and something new like the sixth child.
