New e61 Firmware

Well guys, I did it too, I was lured by the faster browsing comments
Started everything with NSU smoothly, but then by approx 80% it said Update Failed. I dont know what happened. Mine also said

Nokia

I tried to reflash it, but it kept telling me to put the phone in General profile. It didn't recognise it... So I disconnected, took out the battery (it was the only way to turn it off, power button wouldn't do anything), and I turned it on, and oh surprise, it now has the latest firmware!! I didn't even lose my contacts, apps, sms, nothing... I think that's weird, but then again, hard resets never cleared my data with this phone, the only way to give it a proper "hard reset" was to hold green + 3 + * and then power on... Guess my e61 is one stubborn ******* (fortunately )
Cheers

Looks like my keyboard got screwed with the flash too.

e61 bought on ebay, shipped with english keyboard, Made in finland, arabic manuals. The keyboard used to match perfectly, now i have problems with the buttons on the bottom row showing up arabic...

the phone is set to english as well as the typing language, but i get arabic in the browser and email

Notes was always there by ITSELF. But notes for CONTACTS wasnt there AFAIK. I remember trying to find an alternative to adding misc data and extensions to contacts

Let us know if the BB client is there or if we have to wait for an update for that? I wonder if the old client will install on the new Firmware?

When updating through Nokia PC Suite it says that my firmware is up to date, but i only have the V2? How do i get the nokia suite to update to V3?

thanks for the help!

Oddly, even handsets with a keyboard that looks the same may not be the same. My belief is that Nokia has different electronics in the keypad that will send different codes. In particular, with the APAC firmware, I'm guessing that the keypads must do more (to represent the Asian character set).

I did look at different keypad pictures on Nokia's various sites, and used corresponding codes hoping that would solve the issue. No go.

I noticed some other bluetooth issues with this new firmware as well.

My bluetooth used to work great before the update. Now, the phone shows connected to my Jabra BT250, but no sound comes through at all. I have to power cycle the phone before i can hear anything. It does this quite often now, at least a few times a day.

Should i try a newer BT headset? This one is a bit old, granted it worked 100% before i updated.

Hmm, I'm comparing two E61, one with the previous firmware and one with today's version. It seems to me that both supports notes from within contacts.

(Perhaps I've had too much coffee?)

Well I don't know about you guys, but I'm not seeing any significant difference...maybe a little better general performance, but nothing too impressive...

what were you expecting? a new phone? phone was pretty stable as it was so future
updates will probably only improve or fix things you wouldn't notice anyway.

Yeah, maybe I was expecting too much...
What I have found is that it boots considerably faster now, and yes, the fonts are better, bolder, even the digital clock's font now looks decent, with the 1st fw and the default nokia theme it looked like a 128x128 screen (well maybe not that bad)

How long did you guys have to hold down Green + * + 3 after hitting the power button to do a hard reset?
My nsu failed to update and now I'm left with a bricked phone. The white light comes on when I try to power it but nothing else.
I held the Green + * + 3 keys while hitting the power key and kept them depressed for over 3 minutes and nothing.... just a blank screen and white light.
Am I not waiting long enough?

Damn, I just noticed my voice dial doesn't work anymore! I hold the record button, say the name, the phone recognises it, but it never starts dialing, it just goes back to standby.... anybody else with this prob?
Oh, and when you guys finished updating, did you lose all your data? cause I didn't lose contacts, apps, or even sms... I thought an update would clear the phone...

my phone lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! symbian-freak.com is awesome green+*+3 and power hard format, i wasn't holding it long enough you have to hold it for a few minutes, lol.
