New e61 Firmware

as far as i have seen there are the apac and emea versions of the phone, but the keypads are only different as to what is written on them. they are all just buttons underneath. if you change the product code it changes what keypad the phone thinks is on it and will change what you do when you press a key. cnn.cn has different keypads and you can put a different one on your phone.

My guess is that gregh2000 is saying he sent his to them to be "un-bricked," as they likely have the proper equipment to rectify a bricked phone. Pure conjecture on my part, but that is my read on his post.

when my e61 got messed up i had to take the battery out, then press and hold the green+*+3 and power then slide the battery back in and keep holding it until it boots. mine was getting stuck at the nokia screen this time. when i went from v1 to v2 it got stuck at a white led and that was it. that time i had to send it to iunlock for repair.

I had no data on there to lose (brand new phone) but i lost my additional cities (SF, London, Delhi) on the clock.

Any ideas on how to make the keypad match the firmware (or vice versa)?

Just did a little playing around with the new firmware and NO, they did not fix that stupid shift key issue . At least not when surfing the web anyways. But I did notice that the webpages seem to load a bit faster and the phone seems a little faster overall. more to come as I play with the new firmware.....

Wow...talk about wishing I could reverse time. My battery life after this update is absolutely horrid. I had hopes that it was because the handset was trying to use the 3G mode. Alas, I have it set to GSM only.

As a point of comparision, after only eight hours of NO use, the device is already warning me of a low battery. Although I do run Mail for Exchange, this was also true before the update. (Same settings.) This is ugly. I cannot use the device if this situation cannot be improved.

Any suggestions?

i had the problem with voice dial with the last firmware but not with v3 it works great. i did an update from v1 to v2 and it didn't lose everything but it failed part way through. going to v3 i lost everything.

YES MP3 PLAYER WORKS AGAIN!!!

I am so happy, now I just gotta get my email working again.

THANK YOU NOKIA!!!! I am so excited again, oh man I can't contain myself.

I like the new font too. Nice and smooth.

After the flash. I find when I try to open some of my programs I have installed won't open. It will however open sometimes. I tried reinstalling the programs and its fixed but it will happen again. Anyone else experiencing this? Should I format my minisd card?

I've seen people complain that the update is not available, or that their keypad has been screwed up. I'd love to see a bit more disclosure.

How about telling us:

1. What country are you in and is this the country you bought your phone in? If not, where'd you get the phone. "Unlocked" is not enough.
2. Have you used the method of altering your phones ID before performing the update? That sounds to me like what would screw up your keyboards.
