New e61 Firmware

I'm in California. Anybody else getting the "your phone is already at the latest firmware version" on NSU?

Also, from E-series.org

Improvements/changes I?ve noticed so far:

- Overall faster performance
- Browser is *much* quicker
- Mail For Exchange works fine
- If you accidentally press the voice record button on the side the application launches but doesn?t start to automatically record like before~! Yay - no more accidentally recorded sound snippets
- Faster sending of SMS
- Changes to Internet Telephony Application

The damn software is downloading sooooo slowly...

Then I get a message saying that either the service is down or that I have internet connection problems. My internet seems to be running fine...

I tried a firmware upgrade and now my e61 is a brick. Only the white light stays on. I tried the green +3+* for three minutes, and still no result. I don't believe I was upgrading the same firmware version. I was running version 1.0610.04.04, and got the frimware upgrade from the Nokia UK web site.

Pretty discouraged, andthing rescue would help

I'm in NorCal and I think Ed over at e-series is also in the Bay Area. I don't think it has got anything to do with from where you are connected from... Which version of the firmware do you have? Which version of e61 do you have UK? Spanish? APAC?

hey how can update my firmware nsu is sayin no update available when i m still on the first version of the firmware

need some help please

More than likely the same problem my N73, E61 and now N80ie have. Cant delete most themes unless you connect it as mass storage and find the hidden files. It's so random which themes end up in the app manager and a very annoying bug.

Memory management seems to be much better. I'm really impressed.... The browser use to leak like crazy. But now they are free-ing up the memory references on exit of the app.

Never mind. This guy at E-series.org (which is also covering this FW event) said that he also got an E61 from myworldphone and he followed some specific steps to get around some weird branding issue with phones from that retailer.

You guys should also read how the E61 maniacs at E-series.org are working on getting this update to their phones. 50 comments so far!

Following the steps that fellow in the E-series.org comment section made NSU finally detect my phone! If you are a E61 user that got their phone from myworldphone.com, please follow these steps and you'll be flashing your phone like I am at this very moment!

1) Backed up everything :-)
2) Removed my Memory Card
3) Did a hard reset *#7370#
4) Did the Nemesis Flash trick thingie (http://www.averageadmins.com/blog/2006/11/12/force-flashing-the-nokia-e61/)
5) Ran NSU?.said new software available. It failed @ 80%.
6) I took an anti-acid for my stomach. Took a deep breath.
7) I started up my phone and the new Firmware was there

(Thanks to "Ryan" from the E-series.org comment box found here http://www.e-series.org/archives/236)

EDIT: OH MY FREAKING GOD.

Ok, I followed the steps I posted above. It failed at 80% just like the other guy's FW did. I disconnected the phone and tried to start it up. It was locked at the Nokia startup logo and made a beep error. I panicked but then quickly remembered the hard format the fellow on the first page of this thread did to revive his phone. (Press green call + 3 +* + power button (simultaneously!) and HOLD ON FOR DEAR LIFE until you see (whew) the startup screen asking what City you are in. Let go of the buttons, enter it as you would normally when first getting the phone, and see the phone standby screen as it always is! Checked my firmware and the update is there! V 3.06XXXX is working just fine and dandy and its time to check out the new improvements!

This product code appears to be the stepchild among the E61 family. I believe it is a Philippines variant of an APAC firmware. It is the same version that I have.

I had updated the prior version by changing the code, but really regretted it after it was done. (The few gains between the firmware versions weren't enough to compensate for the mismatched keyboard.)

I kept trying weekly to update after I changed the keycode back, but was only able to do so (to the 2.X version, mind you) last week. I find it to be VERY unlikely that Nokia will move on this version for two to three months. (The length of time it took the last update.) Pure conjecture on my part, of course.

I would like to have the ability to update to this version, as my hope (big hope) is that Nokia rectified the issue where the device re-boots every time an attempt is made to access a T-Mobile Hotspot in the numerous Starbucks locations. Does anyone have any idea if this was fixed. It seems likely, since they mention many new changes to the WiFi---and specifically mentioned hotspot improvements. I wonder, too, if Vonage can now be used with the VOIP.
