N80 OWNERS, do you still like it?

Tried various headsets with it using either AD41 or generic connector I got a radio shack. Borrowed different headset from people. Nothing works. Even tried the Jensen WBT212 Bluetooth headset and the Motorola HT820 headset(plays in mono since N80 is not A2DP). I would have to crank it way up to just be able to get a decent level. Been messing with the settings since I got it.

Then I though maybe my hearing is going. So I let a friend try it out and he says its low also.

I am assuming they messed with the firmware somehow to reduce a drain on the battery.

That is one thing that my 6270 does better. The sound quality is darn good. good bass and high.

I've been lurking but this is my first official post.

I've been pretty satisfied with my Nokia 6230 for awhile but then really just wanted a bigger screen to play videos(and save from getting a video I-pod) and possibly a better camera. I wanted something compact and liked the OS and interface of the 6230.

I've had my N80 for a few days and here's my whining $.02.
Pros:
- The screen resolution and colors are beautiful
- Nice looking phone and pretty compact
- Theme capability is nice on this phone
- Nice side loading slot for mini SD
- Wifi and flexible data exchange(bluetooth, infrared, cable)
- Very convenient Data transfer option from your old phone

Cons:
- The OS seems a bit slow, especially to access everyday mundane things
- I'm not having any luck on getting good photo shots for a 3mp camera
- I miss the side volume controls
- I miss accessing most used functions with the upper left button instead of using the arrow buttons located bottom center of phone.
- It is a little thicker than other slide phones w/similiar features
- I don't like charging the battery on a daily basis but it can be expected if you use the phone to it's potential
- The phone feels a bit fragile and I'm hoping they come out with a decent case for it.

I'm sure there are other things I'm forgetting but these are the main points for me.

Overall: I felt this phone was a little too hyped up and costs a little more than what it can deliver. It certainly looks good on paper but living with it is another story.

1. the OS is going to be slower than your 6230, remember you basically went from a phone to a computer. It's fast compared to other s60 phones.
2. Try using the 2-second self timer. Apparently that helps get clearer shots.
3. me too.
4. s60 phones have a "goto" menu just like s40. You just have to set the upper left button as goto and then personalize away! I personally never liked the goto menu.

i didn't notice that until you pointed it out. i was call the black text on black barely readable, but yeah it would be nice to have that changed.

Had my N80 six months today! Pretty happy with it overall, there still aren't any other phones on the market right now that can outdo everything it does, in such a small, if slightly fat, package. I hear the SE P990i is still suffering from software hell.

I have got over most of the niggles with it, my main thing being the lack of those fun side keys SonyEricssons have that change track/station and volume without taking the phone out of your pocket.

Since my iPod was stolen I have had to make do with the N80's music player. Are there any others? I prefer the N70's music player interface I think.

Has anyone replaced the music app on their N80?

I have no sympathy for those on Cingular. If you need 850, then that sucks cause it limits you to a small handful of phones.

You also gain a full QWERTY keyboard, Quick Office that edits documents, a much more beautiful screen, and you'll save yourself $100.

I have trouble reading a thread by someone who admits that updating the firmware would probably fix most of his complaints, but then states that he doesn't want to do that. Seriously. After the firmware update, I have yet to receive an out of memory error, random restart, or browser closing. I can zoom in forever on pictures. My battery, like qwest, lasts till i go to sleep, which is enough for me. I don't need a phone to last me four days on a single charge, as i sleep pretty much every night, and thus have plenty of time to charge it then.

lack of programs issue will subside as soon as more of these devices are on the market.

This is a great thread guys. Since I'm considering the N80 I've got a few questions.. sorry if the OP doesn't like them, but I figure what better place to ask.

1) Can someone point in the proper direction to read up on this issue with the included 128mb card that causes memory dumps and tries to install this Suduku application (what is that anyhow)?
2a) What sites do you guys frequent to get applications for S60 V3 phones?
2b) What sites do you frequent for cracks for the above applications (feel free to PM)?
3) What makes you guys with the Silver phone so impressed versus the black version? Silver seems to be pretty commonplace..

Thanks guys.

battery life is a joke, software is buggy, camera is awful, not enough customizing, slider opens while in pocket and then calls people, blue light blinking is annoying when you are trying to sleep. and yes i have even updated the firmware.

i've got it for about six months now as well. i've never been happier with it since I flashed it to ie version and now it's great. voip works flawlessly, it's sooo cheap. besides, that active standby WiFi scanner is just freakin' awesome. not to mention a lot of apps are at last wvailable for 3rd: skyforce (reloaded) being the most prominent one.

well i have n80 black for quite sometime i am in india and well i am still to see somebody else having it as it is very scarcely available i love it the screen res esp as i have moved from 6630 so everything is good battery life is not so good so i am gonna upgrade my firmware if possible today and see if it works better

for those who already own this phone i have a question, if you would so kind as to address for me. i was really looking into buying this phone but i've read reviews where the battery life of this phone were abysmal. i was wondering if the phone's battery life was as bad as the reviews say it is bucause i know sometimes those things are always 100% accurate i mean..what intervals of time would you give the phone between charges? any help appreciated..thanks in advance
