N80 OWNERS, do you still like it?

i'm glad it worked out as well as it did too. if you ever need a hofo reference just let me know.

i'm using the motion theme thus far, after work today i'll probably try to find a nice black theme to try.

edit: i'm glad i saw the post around here saying to plug in the n80 to have the blinking blue light stop, that thing is pretty bright in a pitch black room!

I got mine @ http://importgsm.com/ - Excellent service... watch for Mobilebee, I bought a K750i from there a while ago and the box came in EMPTY. Someone stole the phone from it, and they didn't do anything about it. Thanks for the credit card otherwise I would have lost $275

I have that theme but there is a bug when your using the web. When your typing in an address and the History helper pops up above it, it's in black text as well as the border so it's unreadable. Anyone else have this problem or a link to a similar blackpearl sis that doesnt suffer from this?...I love this theme but it's got some issues other than that too...just cant remember all of them

Thanks, Dr. I-didn't-read-the-whole-thread. That's the point. The N80 is full of every feature everyone could want, but most of them don't work properly anyway. The camera takes very blurry pictures and the video sucks compared to phones that are hundreds dollars less. Add the fact that the web browser closes all the time makes the wifi seem all the less useful. So, yeah, you're right. I DO want a phone with less features, so I'm going for the E70. In theory, the 2mp camera will take videos and pictures as well as my N70 did and the firmware should be stable enough to keep the browser open for more than a couple pages.

The black one was the first to come out so it was cheaper. That's too bad that you paid more for it.

It's a fair point . I moved to Win Mobile 5 from Second edition, exactly the same which has just happened to S60 . No apps at first , software was buggy etc . We just have to face up to the fact that we are a kind of regression test for the final unit . As early adopters know , you are the final tester for any product . It is impossible to test any software to the level that every individual uses his or her phone . The only thing that bugs me is that obvious problems should be sorted before release . Memory errors must have been apparent in final testing for instance.

There is no difference here between Nokia or say Imate . Until we the customer stop buying new units at an overinflated price to regression test a for the maufacture so they can build a new ROM . Then we can't reallly complain. Its a bug , we must have the latest device and the manufacturers are very aware of this and flaunt it , to line their pockets. I know it sounds bad but lets face it , they run a business and all business envolves supply and demand to create revenue. Phone and PDA manufacturers have landed on their feet here , a whole army of eager testers who will pay over the odds for their devices.

I know cos I'm one of them Tech Addict

Ok rant over Back to playing with the N80 which as I have said is better now I have upgraded the software.

Lol, I'm already addicted, trust me.

Do you understand how incredibly easy it is to use PuTTY for an SSH session with qwerty? What a pain that was with triple tap!

wow the n92 is not a sexy phone, but then i guess its a user preference. the n92 is a bigger phone with a lower res screen so browsing will still be better on the n80. plus the n92 is huge and wide compared to n80. n93 would have more features for you than n92 since you are not watching tv.

I NEVER installed the memory card that came with the handset as I already had my own 512mb, so that rules out the memory card being the cause of reboots and out of memory issues ;-)

What I did when it tried to install suduku was hit the C button and then format the card. Worked for me

but I was tired of the low capacity and moved up to a 1 gig card

The N80 is the phone I hate to love (or love to hate). It has so many features going for it, but it is borderline flawed in its implementation. The ranting on battery life has subsided and I think most of us have resigned ourselves to the limitations of the underpowered battery. The slider/sliding function is the other design feature that you either love or hate - it is what it is and cannot be altered by firmware. No one argues that the screen/display is superb. My biggest issue is the overall stability of the device. It randomly restarts, especially when I am composing text messages. I don't have the "new" firmware yet (not willing to attempt this on my own) and am waiting for iUnlock to get set up for this service. Hopefully the new firmware will make the phone more stable (although a phone this complex will always have moments of trouble).

I also picked up an E61. This is an entirely different phone and really not a direct comparison to the N80. The E61 does not have a camera (typical of a business phone) and is more oriented to email and text. The form factor supports a QWERTY keyboard and is overall a very well done device. Nokia put a 1500 mAh battery in this thing giving it amazing operating life on a single charge.

The N80 is more of a "phone" and if it were stable (battery and camera/video quality aside (very subjective in terms of performance)) the phone would be pretty near perfect. I picked up a few extra batteries and a DT-14 desk top charger and now carry around a spare battery, as well as charging the phone every night (and having a car charger handy). The audio quality of the N80 is at the top of the scale. The sound quality is probably the best I have experienced (including the E61); ear piece volume and speakerphone implementation is loud, distortion free and with balanced tone quality.

I have been bouncing back and forth between the N80 and E61. After the N80 crashes a few times, I get fed up and switch to the E61. Then I get tired of the form of the E61 and go back to the N80. I am waiting for the N73 now. I probably need some mental therapy.

Just ordering the N80 now.

Those who have/seen the phone.

Is the N80 in black more unique or the silver?

I've always found silver to be elegant but every phone I usually see is silver.

the n80 is a great phone. except the camera sucks (my w800i was bettar), 3g is worthless here, no touchscreen, the software is buggy as hell (come on, nok!), and the battery life blows (bl-5b wtf mate).

yea, except for all that, it rocks. seriously though, i loved the n80, if they could improve those features, it would be worth the $600 i paid for mine.

I love the N80. Only a few gripes.

1) Music player sound is looooowwwww. Tried a number of headsets on it. Its just loooowwww. I have it on 10(100%) where on my 6270 that would only be equivalent to 60.

2) Its been said here before. The camera has a lot left to be desired. Don't really care much about it not having autofocus. My gripe is not having a faster shutter speed and processor. Digital zoom is terrible. But then again, lets not forget this is a phone first and foremost.

3) The slider locking mechanism gets loose. Have had to tighten it 2X now and will have to do it again real soon.

Aside from that, the phone is great. Sound quality of calls. WiFi. Calendar features. Being able to view documents. This is a feature packed phone. Granted some of it is lacking its full potential. I use the video player quite a bit to watch movies on my commute and lunch breaks.

I'm still in love with my N80. After getting over the firmware update and my recent hard reset, the phone is in full working order and I couldn't be happier.

Knowing that I have Agile Messenger, Google Maps, QuickOffice/Adobe Reader, WiFi with the excellent Web browser, Podcasting whenever I need em over WiFi, amazing mp3 storage capabilities with crisp, loud sound, S60v3's snappier and sexier interface, BRILLIANT screen, 3mpx camera, and its slider form factor--- i couldn't be happier.
