Chicago was a great play. I loved it.
I never got to see Lion King but my cousin loved it.

Hey Kelly thanks for that! That's weird how nobody knew about him.

And Welcome LittleLoLo! Roger's and hammerstien's Cinderella has always been one of my all time favorites, the old with with Julie Andrews, but not many people know about it.

It should be Katie Holmes holding her "baby" and singing On My Own.....didn't she sing it on Dawson's creek......

Glad to see Singing in the Rain was Number 1---even I can't argue against that

I'm 20 and I watched High School Musical

I'm telling you. It's cheese. Filled with Cheese. But nevertheless the songs are catchy.

When I first borroed "Les Miserables" (video) from the library it was because I thought it was the musical, but it wasn't-it was the Liam Neeson and (what's his name...who's a genius?) movie. I was pretty disappointed. That was way back before I knew the songs or anything...I agree. Good movie. I would have liked to see a movie musical verson of Les Miserables, but in this day and age...in 2006 and considering how Holleywood is, I would be afraid to give any producer the go ahead.

I feel they might sabotage the musical completely for the sake of making good bucks. It would star people like Keira Knightly and famous pretty Hollywood faces and stars, the production would be expensive so the movie looks really 'clean' and 'pretty' and the product would lack the heart and depth of the musical.

Until I can trust Hollywood to do a musical justice like the classics were done, I'm going to go in and out of movie musicals the same way: skeptical. For now, sticking with the 10th anniversary concert of Les Mis works wonders. The cast is outstanding and it's just brilliance. I'd take that rather than confining the music into a fake two blocks of set. Using the theatre makes it as big as it deserves to be.

Hi!

I'm Katherine. I'm so happy I found this thread. I loooove musicals!!!

Stage Musicals I've Seen:
Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, RENT, Titanic, Grease, West Side Story, Wicked, CATS, Into the Woods, Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Jekyll & Hyde, A Chorus Line, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors, Flower Drum Song, The Secret Garden, La Boheme (opera) and Cabaret.

Stage Musicals I LOVE and have seen at least 4 times each!!
Les Misérables, Miss Saigon (6), Phantom of the Opera, RENT, Wicked -- I can pretty much sing the entire soundtrack to all of these musicals verbatim!!

Favorite Musicals-turned-Movies:
Phantom of the Opera, RENT, Grease, Dreamgirls and Hairspray.

I also like Enchanted, Moulin Rouge, and if it ever comes back into production, I would love to see Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA.

I'm a huge Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers fan..I can watch any of their movies over and over. As for current movies---Cry Baby (I guess that counts as a musical..), Moulin Rouge and Chicago are my favorites----I'm thinking (well, hoping really) that Sweeney Todd can beat them all.

And yea, Hairspray was a movie first (John waters---who I adore!) with Ricki Lake which was genius. They are redoing the musical into a movie though---hopefully it won't suck.

I'll definitely be voting for it when the time comes up.....

I go to New York about 1-2 times a year just to see musicals. I'm heading there in October to see Wicked (For the 5th time), The Lion King (The second time), Gypsy and possibly one other---haven't decided but will probably just pick some cheapy tickets up at the TKTS Ticket booth.

I haven't watched Moulin Rouge in a long time (Favorite movie ever). I'll definitely have to go dust it off and curl up on the couch.

i watched the remake a few weeks ago... it wasn't as bad as i thought but i still like the original better.

thanks for the link Rockstar!

my favorite musical is RENT, but my other favs are The Phantom of the opera, the sound of music, rogers and hammersteins cinderella, fiddler on the roof, the wizard of oz, wicked, the drowsy chaperone, and oaklahoma.

Yay for a Musical thread

I really like watching Grease and Grease 2 because I always love singing to the music. Also love Nightmare before Christmas, The little shop of horrors, West side story, and Moulin Rouge.
