Media Player Discussion Thread

That's actually not true at all. I used WinAmp for the longest time and I've barely had any trace of illegal music on my computer. I go out and buy a CD and then I "rip" the CD to mp3s and play them through WinAmp. That way I can easily switch between CRAB without having to eject my CD and put in a new one.

MediaMonkey is by far the best program I've ever used, and I've used iTunes, Winamp, WMP, and the Zune software (that-which-must-not-be-named). It's really easy to scrobble with Last.FM, supports iPod syncing, just so much easier to tag your music/keep everything organized. IMO. I find I have a lot more time to actually listen to music now rather than having to keep fix tags. You can download a whole bunch of skins to customize it how you like, no lag whatsoever, like I said hanRAB down the best. Definitely give it a shot.

iTunes is awful. That program is half the reason I detest iPoRAB.

In any case, I use Windows Media Player just because I like the AMG album information, even though it does get screwy sometimes. Before I got XP I used Winamp because Windows Media Player 9 doesn't let you rip to mp3, and I'll die before I rip all my music to wma. Winamp is pretty good, as long as you don't want to rip cd's.

i have a 5th gen. just installed rockbox actually. it was a painless operation. absolutely idiot proof.

found a nice theme and am very happy with how things look so far.

tried a few flac albums and i am very impressed with the increase in audio quality. initial read speed is slow when accessing directories, but once an album is playing, all is well.

this thing even supports replay gain. i'm happy.

plus, it's totally reversible. and my apple firware is still there, i can boot to it whenever i want.

and no more software to add music. i can just use my own directory structure. drag 'n' drop.

don't know why i didn't do this before!

:yikes: wow Rockafella listened....awesome :band: ! Oh and I have nothing relevant to say on this thread except ummm Jester is that avie supposed to be a representation of you? Late breaking news hun you're BALD! You're avie is wearing a rug  Ok carry on

Sorry if there is already a thread for this, but anyways.

Right now I use Winamp for my media player, and I've kinda been playin around with a few other to see what I like more, but I was wondering which media player you guys prefer and why. What are the advantages and features of it, and what issues does it have.

The reasons I use Winamp are; plays every file format I've tried playing in it, from FLAC to those stupid ACC files, and the layout is very customizable. Also it does play some videos. However I have had issues with it crashing, and the add-ons don't work as smoothly as they do an other open source media players such as Song Bird.

Winamp 5 (free) to listen while i am surfing.

I like the way it compacts down to a thin bar that can sit at the top of your screen and not get in the way of anything.Brillo!!

I use WMP to burn discs just because it's easy.

Really not enough Foobar love in this thread.

It does what a music player neeRAB to do, and is a helluva lot quicker than any other music player I've tried. Yes, you can change your iPod music through it with a simple add on.

So I downloaded iTunes last night. Very cool software. And I love the display for streaming. Just wish I could figure out if you can change the skin at all.

I think it will install on most current ones but don't think it's actually supported. But yeah, it's really good. I still use MM to sync mine though, never had to bother with (sh)iTunes in the first place.

The most important thing I think is that searching is better integrated. If you have a lot of music, then you can't really scroll around for it. You search. The developers behind winamp understand that.

It's not just the search bar which is easier to find. You can define your own smart views, basically search filters, that pops up in the left-hand side menu which is generally easier and better than the one you find in MM. You click your "1970s" filter and up comes all songs from that decade.
