Mastodon

I don't doubt that one bit, I guess I'm not a big fan of vagueness. Plus, I look forward to hearing different perspectives of the album. It's definitely different from what they've released so far, but Papa Roach?

voivod is pretty awesome but i can't help but laugh a bit anytime i hear them. i guess growing up as a french canadian it's easier for me to hear the slight accent that comes through in their vocals every now and again. their cover of astronomy domine is golden.

I've been a fan since Leviathan came out. Their new album is ****in' awesome. Why compare them to Metallica? They stomp Metallica these days anyway.

I'm liking the new album after a couple of plays. However I feel like the drums could be a bit louder in the mix, they don't sound crisp and hard-hitting enough to me.

I initially also had a problem with the vocals, sound a bit corporate and the different backup vocals reminded me of typical dual metalcore vocals. I got that impression more on the first listen than the second, though.

Agreed on Leviathan.

I don't understand why Mastodon catches flak from the metal crowd... maybe it's the non-metal influences that piss them off? Either way, I quite like them.

Some people say Dailor overplays and that Mastodon songs are just drum solos, but I think it's part of their sound... it really gives it a dynamic feel.

... I'm Cathy, and I like you. Nice to meet you.

We must move to the Isis thread if we're going to rant about Wavering Radiant, though.

EDIT:
Wait, have we already met?

One of the best metal banRAB around today.

If you like Isis, Dillinger Escape Plan, Neurosis and of course the brilliant High On Fire, you will assuredly like these fella's.

I don't know how to class these guys as Leviathan, their latest album, moves on a bit from their previous album. Last I saw them regarded as was Math Metal and Metalcore and even Prog Metal.

Check out:
Iron Tusk
Blood and Thunder
Elephant Man
Workhorse

I've seen them mentioned a few times before but couldn't find a thread. Have a blast team...

i thought i had posted on this thread but it seems i havent.

i dont like them.. i respect them, but dont like them. find them pretty uninteresting. The first album had some awesome riRAB on it though.

I vote yes on this. Have you listened to it and decided to buy it, or are you of the extincting breed that buys an album without listening to it first?
