Mastodon

I got to love my hometown Atlanta band, actually I've been in company a few times of Jim Stacey who 'stars' in 2 of Mastadon's videos - most famously, Blood & Thunder (I'm frienRAB with one person that is in the crowd). Yeah, I do have to admit besides Black Lips, Mastadon is easily the peak of all Atlanta music.

I can understand the criticism regarding the singing, the guy didn't plan on being the lead singer but they had trouble filling the position. Even there best known song Blood & Thunder features a guest vocalist (not Jim Stacey on the video as it appears it is).

Korn? blech. On the strength of this album I may check out Leviathan as a fellow mod has recommended it a few times as I'm a huge Gojira fan and he says it's similar. There is quite a big stoner rock influence on this new album methinks.

i really love "shadows that move" off "lifesblood EP" with the intro and the slamming riff, just so energetic.

they are a brilliant band. blood mountain is alright, but nothing like remission.

oh, and i missed seeing them with tool :'(

Incredible live band. I wasnt that fussed before I went to see them a couple of years back but I appreciated them so much more after seeing them live.

I have heard a lot of this band so I got hold of Blood Mountain. It did'nt do a lot for me. Is there earlier stuff any better?

I do admit, after listening to metal for over 20 years, it takes a damn good album to turn my head these days.

The albums due out in about two weeks (March 24th), and it just leaked today. Anyone listen yet? I havent myself, but Im excited too, I hear they have a slower more psychedelic sound with this record and id love that. For anyone whos listened post some impressions! Let me know how it is.

Corporate, really? Hmm. To each his own, I don't hear that at all. More polished, yeah, but not corporate. I think the vocals sound better on this one than any of the previous recorRAB.

Was being sarcastic about the teen angst and Korn. I'd hope with all that I've posted so far, you wouldn't really think I'm into Korn. :(

On Leviathan - Do it! I'm no mod, but that makes it two recommendations. I guess its a little similar, but I think Gojira might be a little ahead of them. Stoner rock on Crack the Skye? I'm not sure of that. I hear more of a classic prog rock, for sure.

Very few people do what you`re doing, but it can be very rewarding doing this. I think if you buy "Blood Mountain" it`ll be a great buy and listen. But that of course is dependent on the type of sound you`re expecting to hear.

I first caught sight of Mastodon at a Tool gig earlier this year. I was undecided at the time (as one often is when hearing a band's unfamiliar material being played at 270 decibels), but upon many recommendations I thought I'd try my luck with their 2006 album Blood Mountain. Seriously, this is an unbelievable record. It has the odd weak track, but where it shines, it's some genuinely compelling stuff.

Anybody else have some happy-ending Mastodon stories?
