Mamma Mia!

The songs "Under Attack", "One of Us" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You" were removed from the movie's script while "Thank You for the Music" has been removed from the show' narrative and instead placed during the closing credits. "Under Attack" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You" appear in the film as instrumentals during scene activity.

Sophie and Bill's song "The Name of the Game" was recently announced it has been cut from the final cut of the film. The scene will be included in the deleted scenes of the DVD release. "The Name of the Game" however remains on the soundtrack.

My thoughts too - it would be like buying a cd of an Abba karaoke night at your local.

I had really high expectations of this film - I've seen the stage show 6 times - but was really disappointed.

Meryl Streep was awful. She's far too old for the role. The guy who played Sky was so wooden he was almost nailed to the floor.

Why choose actors who can't sing for a musical? None of them were a patch on the cast of the stage shows.

Whoever asked above, yes Harry was gay in the stage show.

Thought I'd jump in on the discussion! Have seen this a couple of times now, not really by choice... I can't make my mind up about this film; I really enjoy the musical numbers and there are a few scenes that I loved (the beach bit, the party at the end) however I can not stand the plot that doesn't resolve and I don't enjoy ABBA or the idea of watching it (wouldn't pick it if it was a choice of Mamma Mia! or something else).

I wonder if the stage musical would be better for me?

I wasn't sure about whether I would like it or not but after hearing Mark Kermode's review of it on Radio 5 I had to see it and went last night. It was the funniest review I have ever heard - he spent about half an hour saying how the acting was wooden, Pierce Brosnan's singing was without a doubt the worst torture he had ever sat through, how Meryl Streep articulated the songs as if she was performing a Shakespearean soliloquy etc, etc, etc and then at the end he said - but Abba's songs are so good that they make you ignore all of that and have the best time ever and laugh and cry and come out at the end feeling that life is good and everything is okay after all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61UolzFTVPI&feature=user

And he was 100% accurate.

Just saw it and LOVED it.

The 'grown up' best frienRAB were hilarious and so watchable, it's great to see a movie not full to the brim of twentysomethings.

Speaking of though...

Sky/Dakin/Dominic bestill my heart!

Having seen the show in the West End and now the trailer for this film version I think I'm going to wait till it gets a DVD release.

American accents on the characters are just plain wrong!

BBC Teletext are wrong then:

Step Brothers IS the number one film, Mamma Mia is number 2...I don't know how many more links you need to the same information, the stuff being linked to is the official UK box office charts.

It wouldn't be the first time BBC have got the charts wrong, they messed up with the Mummy and Dark Knight a few weeks back too.

Why?
I never saw what all the fuss about Titanic was, but still credited the fact it sold so well at cinemas (even though I've never personally seen it)

A lot of people have clearly enjoyed it enough to pay time and time again to see it.. and look at how many DVRAB it's sold!

lol it's too early to argue

i hope QS doesnt go much further! paticullay as criticlly it hasnt been given good reviews !!i think mamma mia is at number 11 !hopefully it may re-enter the top ten !

That's a real shame, one of us is my favourite Abba song barring winner takes it all (and I've seen the clips of Meryl and she sings it just fine!)

My heart is fine. Hairspray was my fav film last year! You know, a film that was shot in focus, had actors the right age playing the characters and songs that related to the plot.

1) that's the worst pun ever :p

2) What chavs do you know that go along to a musical...based on the songs of ABBA...and sing. You and me know very different chavs.

I work in a cinema, and trust me, people do sing and dance - even when the film is over :D

I've yet to peek in on a screening that hasn't had at least one person singing along!
