Mamma Mia!

Couldnt have put it better myself!!!! my only complaint is why Meryl Streep or the film didnt get a golden globe ...kate winslet ..ughh... give me a bag of crisps!! :)

I went to see this last night and i enjoyed it. :)

Went to see Hancock before it, and it was 100 times better than that crap. Good singing (minus Pierce!) and a good and upbeat rhythm. Don't know whether i'll buy it on DVD though..
Good cast of characters, especially enjoyed Julie Walters and The Dynamo's!

Because sometimes things just make you smile and feel happy without any good reason and that's what happened to me when I saw Mama Mia. It was not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination but when you remove the need for criticism and analysis and just go with the flow, you can sometimes enjoy yourself far more than you ever expected.

As you say the film 'looks' lame I am presuming you haven't actually seen it. That of course is your prerogative but to then criticise people who do see it and actually enjoy it - well that is tripe in my opinion.

just been to see mamma mia today and thought it was
thoroughly enjoyable it had everything in good music comedy and romance.i thought it lit up the screen after all the hype i wondered if thats all it was but it wasnt just hype.
what comes across on screen is that it looks like the cast had a brilliant time filming it.
please dont walk out before the credits end like some people did when i went to see it because the credits give you a laugh also.

Saw Mamma Mia tonight and I have to say I enjoyed it more than the show. I haven't laughed so much at a film in ages. Also, Meryl Streep did a brilliant job of The Winner Takes it All IMO - moving and very dramatic in context.

Apart from the obvious songs, I also loved Chiqitita.

I waned to applaud on a number of occasions, but unfortunately there was a small audience where I saw it. Still some people clapped at the end! The final sequences were brilliant.

My frienRAB also loved it and we would all see it again. A perfect, fun summer film.

The singing works fine in the context of the film, but if you don't have the music already, I would still buy the original Abba.

How about fernando? that was not included but was one of their biggest hits.

Great film. Saw it yesterday afternoon. A fun musical in the way Grease was. Not many musicals where you can say every song was good but this was. Great ending too. The audience started clapping and no one rushed out the second the first credit appeared on the screen.

Just got in from seeing this. It's such a feeelgood movie and very funny in parts.
Ok, so Pierce can't sing but he gives his best. Meryl Streep is fabulous, what an actress she is. This really extenRAB her range!
It makes me nostalgic for the good old days. The songs are so uplifting and emotional at times. Nobody wanted to leave the cinema and they were queuing round the block to get in!

I have not attacked or belittled anyone!

I'm just interested in why (apparently 10 million) people like this film, when I thought it was total rubbish. I provided a list of points which I based my rating of the film on, but unfortunately no-one has been able to disprove their validity or offer up reasons why the film is so great. So I am sadly none the wiser.

I'm sorry if you think that anyone who disagrees with your opinion is attacking you, or trying to get under your skin. That was not my intention. I had not realised that this thread was only open for adulation and fawning over this movie.

Thankyou filmfan7 for trying to explain that I have maybe taken the film too seriously, maybe that is the problem, but it is difficult to understand how people can be saying 'it's just a fun film, it shouldn't be taken seriously' and then go on to complain that it didn't win any awarRAB for film production/acting!

UUUUrrrgghhhh!!

Mmmmmmmm,,,,,,, yaaaaaahhhh........

phuh! Phuh!! *spits*

Yeeees- its the sound of Boddism escaping after nearly drowning in a vat of sugar.......

Yes- I have returned from Mamma Mia!!!

On the way home I passed my towns only gay bar, and as I did I thought to myself. "Nope, IVE just had the campest night in this town tonight!!"

I have to say the atmosphere in the cinema was ELECTRIC tonight, and I always love it when a cinema is like that!

People burst into spontaneous applause at the end, and people were singing along throught the film.

Me? I didnt DISlike it, but I cant really say its my cup of tea either... Im not a fluffy and guffy kinda person when it comes to films.

I thought it was really Meryl Streeps film, I thought shr was just GREAT in this (I also loved her in Devil Wears Prada too!)

There were some obscure Abba ballarRAB I didnt know in it, and I was disappointed at the lack of "Thank you for the music" (an Abba classic).... and where was Waterloo???

NO WATERLOO RAB!!!!!!

(My fav bit was Colin Firth at the end... worth the price along just to see that!!)

Guaranteed to become a camp classic!!

OH wow, i agree. Take a chance on me in the movie makes me want to listen to the song and sing to it with as much attitude as julia Walters did :D:D soo funny!!

As the director of mamma mia has said the story was best suited to be filmed on a greek island and for me the stunning scenery of skopelos and skaithos and part of the greek mainland where some the film was shot made a good story with great music very special !!!
