Mamma Mia!

Love Abba, but I have to say, I HATED this film, which is a shame 'cause it could have been a cracker! Believe it or not, I'd have preferred it with an Abba backing track, and maybe a few abba karaoke scenes from the cast in appropriate places. Yeah, I know it's was only supposed to be a feelgood summer movie..but I'm afraid I found it mostly irritating. Girl reading her ma's diary...and not saying "gross, yuck etc etc." was beyond my comprehension, let alone telling all her mates

The singing was dire, and it was clear to me that the story was cobbled around the lyrics, and largely just didn't work..eg Chiquitita, I was cringing throughout that one, I can tell you, and why any girl would want her erstwhile father to walk her down the aisle when her mother has brought her up single handedly...total insult.

Just an excuse to showcase a few beach beauties (and uglies) prancing around on a beautiful beach....It was at best a dodgy music video and at worst a travelogue.

Fabulous cast put to waste...I never want to see that film again!

i agree with MIKAY on this for a small budget film cringey cheesey whatever!! mamma mias success has been amazing!!...its a funny feel good film and with all the depressing news today that cant be bad ...ill be dissapointed if meryl streep doesnt at least get an oscar nomination for this film ! the film itself has been seen by over 10 million people taken close on

Wow Magic8Ball, do you really have nothing better do to than try to get under people's skin? You don't like the film, we do, move on.

I went a few weeks ago. Even though I love musicals, I wasnt very keen on seeing this but OMG so glad I went! It was really good. I laughed til I cried and a film hasnt made me do that for a long time. Julie walters was the star for me, utterly hilarious especially at Take A Chance On Me. Winner Takes It All was brilliant. I thought the girl who played Sophie was fantastic too. It was really cheesy, especially Pierce Brosnan but its really fun and I would definitely see it again!! It has also made me thinking about going to watch the musical in London!

I got mine today :D I went to the local Tesco and was gutted because the shelf saying Mamma Mia was empty and a woman next to me heard me saying to my friend they were gone and said 'Sorry, I just took the last one!' So had to get from Woolworths instead :D And then later on, I went back to Tesco for something during my lunch break and they had restocked the Mamma Mia bit.

So 59 year old Meryl Streep who looks 45 at the youngest (as do both her frienRAB) has a 20 year old daughter and had moved to a Greek island after being rejected by her own mother for being pregnant - yet she'd have been 39 years old 20 years ago

And no, hardly any of the songs fit in with whatever the plot was trying to convey.

I haven't seen We Will Rock You, so don't know the story.. but I like Queen songs so it could work, but they'd have to do it right.

I know that I hadn't seen Mamma Mia! on stage before I saw the movie, but it really cemented a new found love for ABBA inside of me, and it actually inspired me to really want to see it on stage, because I think it'd be a million times better than the film (and I still thought the film was amazing)

I agree about Greece.. the scenery throughout was absolutely breathtaking.
