Julia
Starring Vanessa Redgrave and Jane Fonda. A playwright recalls the time during the 1930s when a dear, old childhood friend of hers requested her help in smuggling money in order to tackle the scourge of Nazism. The film can be summed up by me in two halves: first half is quite pointlessly slow, repetitive, and giving us little characterisation to work on, with strange editing decisions; the second half is a bit better and the story moves on. In a way, it's a pity the acting roles weren't switched, with Vanessa playing Lillian, and Jane playing Julia, because due to the nature of the story Julia gets very little screen time compared to Lillian, and I'm not that keen on Jane Fonda's acting, while I do respect Vanessa Redgrave's. Oh well, I suppose I had time to spare on this well-lauded film, but I do think that with some editing, the film could have won me over more.
