Last Movie You Watched? (Part 3)

Letters to Juliet - I wasn't sure i was going to like this in the first 10 mins or so, but by the end i was blubbing. Lovely, sweet film.

The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest

Excellent ending to the trilogy. Such a shame the author passed away and we'll never get to see the plans he had for the next 7 installments, now consigned to history's dustbin. Noomi Rapace is just superb as Lisbeth, I cannot imagine anyone else playing the part.

Assembly - Blu Ray

Saw the DVD years ago and loved it so wanted to see it in HD. Fantastic transfer and a superb war film. Prefer it to saving private ryan!

That scene where Hitler has gathered all of his Generals and goes totally ape is just plain frightening.
The scene when the war veteran father confronts the Hitler Youth in the street and asks 'what front did you fight on then?'.'I am too young to have had that honour' he replies.I guess that sums up the brainwashing process.

I was watching a documentary the other day, about the bombing campaign over Germany.About how the German people weren't afraid of the destruction. They were more afraid of their own 'government'.......

Green Zone

Not bad you know. Quite liked it. Follows Matt Damon as Chief Miller as he uncovers the truth about why the Americans went to war with Iraq.

Julia

Starring Vanessa Redgrave and Jane Fonda. A playwright recalls the time during the 1930s when a dear, old childhood friend of hers requested her help in smuggling money in order to tackle the scourge of Nazism. The film can be summed up by me in two halves: first half is quite pointlessly slow, repetitive, and giving us little characterisation to work on, with strange editing decisions; the second half is a bit better and the story moves on. In a way, it's a pity the acting roles weren't switched, with Vanessa playing Lillian, and Jane playing Julia, because due to the nature of the story Julia gets very little screen time compared to Lillian, and I'm not that keen on Jane Fonda's acting, while I do respect Vanessa Redgrave's. Oh well, I suppose I had time to spare on this well-lauded film, but I do think that with some editing, the film could have won me over more.

Castaway 9/10 excellent film ! emotional touching !...paticulally the ending where Tom Hanks finRAB himself at a crossroaRAB which is rather symbolic after moving on from his relationship ..........one of his best performances !

Monsters (2010) - 8.5/10

Really good, although i can see the title and the trailer leading some people to expect an action/horror film, when in reality it's quite the opposite (and all the better for it if i'm honest).

There Will Be Blood

And there was. Daniel Day Lewis plays a misanthropic oil prospector motivated by wealth and power at the expense of more endearing human qualities. He buys land off a religious family with a son who's a zealous preacher, which brings him directly into conflict with their morality, particularly the son's, who himself also has a big ego to fill. Good film that's character driven. The acting by Day Lewis was excellent.

30 Days of Night: Dark Days - 6/10 fairly disappointing sequel that comes across more like an extended episode of Supernatural. The vamps have lost their feral intensity and the heroes act pretty dumb most of the time.
