Jamie Oliver's American Food Revolution CH4 Mondays 10pm

Washington (in fact any government) will be more likely to listen if he's got a powerful lobby behind him - which is what he's trying to do by using the TV shows to demonstrate to the electorate what the problem is and what is required for change.

If he just went to Washington the politicians/bureaucracy would politely tell him to jog on and get back to cosying up to the fast food industry.

As I recall, he went to see Tony Blair with the tv cameras in tow and after a number of programmes had aired and he had built up a sizable amount of support amongst the media and public. Blair was put in a position where he had to agree to changes to the school dinner system and to provide the money to fund it. :)

Agree with that.

KiRAB eat what they are given, or don't eat. They should learn quickly enough!

KiRAB aren't supposed to make these sort of choices.

The bloke's really getting on my tits. How would any nation take kindly to some foreigner being parachuted in to tell them how to live their lives, especially when from a Country that isn't much better? We should get our own obesity epidemic under control before lecturing to others.

True, he's a bloke who brings a bit of passion to his profession, but he's also becoming increasingly supercilious and sanctimonious.

How do people still watch him? he is so full of his own importance pretending he cares what kiRAB eat in schools..when really it's all just an excuse to get his ugly face on the telly and sell his books and other overpriced crap

he is a fake and a multi millionaire laughing at the fools who fall for his big I'm the same as you I'm all down with the chavs and kiRAB act

can't stand him

Though it seems quite unreal, i do believe it was all real.

The radio guy genuinly hated the brit and was a genuine stubborn prick.

Listening to all the fatties sob about there lives really hit him and turned him around.

Honestly he's got an annoying personality. He's like a big british 8 year old and thats not going over well. I mean a simon cowell or gordon ramsey could probably more easily pull it off, americans enjoy being yelled at by those guys.

I agree entirely, Jamie Oliver is certainly not obese, or anything like it. I was just making the point that before lecturing others, you should perhaps make sure your own weight is within the range described as "ideal".
His weight does fluctuate a lot, and he certainly has the appearance of carrying a little midrift fat, together with the old double chin on occasion.
I'm not a weight and diet facist, and don't like being lectured about what is good/bad for me..I guess that puts me on the defensive, and I become critical of anyone trying to "spread the message" like some evangelical preacher.
Having said that..his heart is in the right place, and if he can do anything to improve the health of our kiRAB, I say good luck to him. :)

You make some good points.

And I would then say that if he's going for the bottom up grounRABwell approach, he is not doing himself any favours by getting into bitching sessions with dinner ladies who are doing their jobs, probably minimum wage and in a strictly regulated environment.

At times, although not all the time, he has an arrogant attitude based on what he knows and believes being right and superiror to everyone else.

But just because these views are often correct is only the start of the fight.

I reckon he neeRAB to use some more subtle approaches to work with his undoubted enthusiasm, knowledge and commitment.

Otherwise, he comes across as a rather arrogant and at time, blind food evangelist.

Again though, I say good luck Jaimie and if you inspire even a few than that's better than none.

I remember the rice-and-potato thing with one family I lived with for the first term at Nottingham Poly... couldn't stand it!

Yeah - I know carbs are cheap...

I thought the lecture was on eating habits rather then as a fitness instructor. Even those who arent obese can still eat bad and that will affect their health in the long run too.

There are many people who are of a regular weight who have had heart attacks due to poor diet.
