Is there a E61 Compatible SIP VoIP service that can call phones?

I'm looking for the ability to call a cell phone from my cell phone, only using WiFi on my side with VoIP, without using up plan minutes. Is it possible yet?

you are using E61, right? could you just keep us updated, i am looking into it myself but i dont have the time at the moment for configurations and stuff... i am purely interested to use it for overseees calls...

Installed Truphone on my E60 & it works great. Had problems to get it insatalled at first ,you need to disconnect from the web, but it installed & configured the SIP settings automatically. Voice quality is great. I got 3 different providers, Sippgate, Truphone, and Gizmo via Pbxes... : )

Similar story here.

Installation was a bit painful - these guys are trying to make the installation brain dead so that you don't have to go in an muck with any SIP settings. Its a great idea, but they don't quite have all the bugs in their install wizard worked out. Definitely check out their FAQ, HOWTO, and KNOWN PROBLEMS sections.

But after working through the installation problems and tweaking things a bit (they set you up to be always registered and I had to go back and change things so that I only registered on demand), I'm pretty darn happy. Voice quality is great. I'm not having any problems with NAT traversal. And latency, while a bit worse than GSM, is quite tolerable.

Three notes:
(a)Despite what their website says, they do have an E70 version. I'm using it.
(b)They require the version 2 firmware.
(c)Even with the updated firmware, the Nokia VOIP stuff is still a little flakey. While mucking around with settings, I got into weird states a couple of times and had to power cycle the phone. Now that I'm in a stable configuration, it seems to be pretty usable.

Sign up for Gizmo Project (www.gizmoproject.com).

Configuration steps:

1) In Tools -> Settings -> Connection -> SIP settings ->Create the
following profile

Profile Name: sipphone
Service Profile: IETF
Default Access point: [your WLAN AP name]
Public user name: sip:[email protected]
Use Compression: No
Registration: "Always on"
Use Security: No
--
Proxy Server: sip: proxy01.sipphone.com
Realm: proxy01.sipphone.com
User Name: 1747xxxxxxx
Password: [You SIPPhone password]
Allow loose routing: Yes
Transport Type: TCP
Port: 5060
--
Registrar Server: siproxy01.sipphone.com
Realm: proxy01.sipphone.com
User Name: 1747xxxxxxx
Password: [Your SIPPhone password]
Transport Type: TCP
Port: 5060

Registration: "Always on" and "When needed" is the switch to turn on
and off SIP registration. So typically when I'm configuring I choose
"When needed", and after I have done all the 3 steps, I come back here
to change to "Always on" to switch on SIP registration.

Transport Type: TCP is a bit surprise for me, but UDP didn't seem to
work. That's one of those tried and working thing.

2) In Tools -> Settings -> Connection -> Internet Tel. Settings ->
Create a new profile for "sipphone"(1747xxxxxxx), name it "sipphone"

3) In Connectivity -> Internet tel. -> Preferred profile -> Choose "sipphone"

At this point you might need to do the previous mentioned step: change
Registration to "Always on" in "SIP settings". The phone should now
start to get WLAN association, with a fat WLAN icon on top right
screen indicating success. Then it will take a little while to
register to the sipphone.com, after which a small Internet call icon
will appear next to the fat WLAN on icon. Voila! Now you are
registered and ready to make calls!

(Special thanks to Dameon for providing this information)

I copy/paste the above for HOFO from: http://support.gizmoproject.com/index.php?_a=knowledgebase&_j=questiondetails&_i=207

Thanks for the link. I'm not getting it to work with those settings and with any other info from that link at all, but I'm still trying/troubleshooting. I gotta get this to work!

no the xxxx part is your gizmo sip number, and good luck getting this to work. I've tried and tried, with multiple VOIP providers and can't get any to work. What router are you using?

^ that is great to hear! so far most people that have used it seems to be having a good voice quality, which is of course the 2nd most important thing, apart from the supposed lower cost, coz why bother with VoIP if it aint having at least useable voice quality...

Yes - on my E61. I am very pleased with the service. Tried few overseas calls (including those which aren't free). Per-second billing, distinguish between answered and unanswered calls (unanswered you don't get billed for). So far great!

BTW - keeping VoIP connection always-on (not on-demand) doesn't hurt the battery life as bad as I expected.

I got it to work on the first try....

I've got a DLINK router and a Linksys Wireless router (as an access point).

You guys, the sip registration takes a little while... This registration is done by the phone automatically. Once it's registered, you'll see and icon on top.

The bottom link does not work. Can someone repost a link.

I am still trying to get gizmoproject going and still not registering.

I will try truephone but wanted to know if for gizmo I should update the firmware or try pbs?

I used thos settings exactly and it worked! I am now connnected and it made a notice about emergency called will be tried over wifi if the cell network isn't available.

My big question now is : how do i call use that network and not my cell network? I remember something had to be changed somewhere?

Also, am I only able to call other Gizmo users at this point who are on a PC for free?

Thanks!

EDIT: Well, I just found the call setting and changed it to internet. The quality was HORRIBLE! The ring sounded completely distorted and the answering machine was impossible to understand. I'll have to try again and see.

Tried to install Truphone. Got stalled when all settings could not be installed and only two were saved.

Running an firmware upgraded e61. Has anyone experienced this?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

I encountered the same problem and they have it documented in their "KNOWN PROBLEMS" section. I recommend reading the whole thing. When you get the that point in the install process, you have to switch tasks over to "services" and exit services. Something about having the web-browser open with an active wlan connection prevents it from saving all of the settings.

It worked fine for me, me and another user also concluded that sound quality is garbage on a D-Link DI-524 router but good on other access points. So make sure to try it out in a few different areas before coming to a conclusion.

Wirelessly posted (Killed By Death : Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/2.0.4509/1296; en; U; ssr))

Damn I hope my Eh61 gets back shortly either repaired or replaced! Formerly fantastic WiFi speeds on various networks deteriorated to consistent 200k speeds!
