Truphone uses a different codec than standard (e.g. not 711 or 729) which results in low bandwith usage. I have free internet access in KLM lounges and regularly make calls on it to save international roaming. I'm rarely in a situation where I would pull out a laptop, a portable headset and do it over my laptop. With the E61, however, the only hassle is dealing with the web based logon to the net. Given the price of international roaming, it is worth it.
I have 3g access on my E61, but I don't have an all you can eat program. I'm glad to hear it works good on EDGE or do you really mean true GPRS.
The one beef I have with the E61 on VOIP is the fact that half the numbers in my phone book I have problems direct dialing because of spaces, dashes, or parrens. The E61 (with truphone or my own Asterisks server) hates a number like +44-207-XXX-XXXXX or 1 (212) 555 XXXX, it really wants all the numbers in your phone book styled like +12125551212 if you want the number to work with both your mobile and truphone.
ugochuik, did you know that you can also directly sip uri dial with truphone? For example, I call my work e-mail by entering the sip address in the phone book (e.g. [email protected].
