Is the Nokia N95 really the N73 Killer?

Don't forget that the N73 was over 5 hundo when it first came out and many of us jumped on it quickly. I think I paid $498 shipped so it's all relative. That's the price of a fully functional laptop as well.

I spend more time staring at a S60 screen than I do any other screen it seems and after staring at the latest crop of V3's I can honestly say the N91's screen is painful. I've toyed around with my friends 8gig and it's a lovely phone all around but I don't think it's in the same league as the N95. I loaded mine up with a 100mb's of different music last night and was playing them on my TV this morning. It was simply awesome to be honest with you. My 3 yr old daughter marveled, "hey, that's your phone on the TV. That's cool!". Needless to say, with that kind of early interest in mobiles she was promptly given some chocolate milk and a little pat on the butt!!!

The GPS is a little rubbish, but the N95 takes the best of the N80 and improves on it I think.

I do like the idea of the mobile GPU too, cant wait to see what can be done on this in the future. If performance in benchmarks is anything to go by, Future games for the N95/N93 should be a lot more impressive than what we're used to.

I have to say I got this phone on a contract so cheaper than the sim free prices people are quoting Dont think id bother if I had to purchase it sim free.

I would think that the N95 is better matched with the N80, instead of the N73. The more pertinent question for me is whether it is worth the upgrade from an N80 to an N95 (taking into consideration the few hundred dollars' difference). I don't plan to use GPS, so really all that I'm missing is autofocus (I don't even need 5 MP!) and TV-out.

I don't know man...some people might be stretching it to get the $500 phone so $800 might be out of range. I agree that either one is expensive but the N95 is really really expensive.

Essentially it could all be considered rubbish as a better camera, mp3 player, gps, organizer, web browser (N800), camcorder, feed reader, podcasting, photosharing, etcetc....can be found, but in 1 device?

Don't get me wrong, I like the phone and would get one when the price goes down and battery is improved. But that is a ton of cash for a phone. The wifi and GPS are really the only features worth a signifigant jump in price.
If the E65 had the cam from the N73 I would jump on that instead.

I didnt say it was a bad all in one device. All im saying is that the GPS unit isnt exactly the best thing in the phone. Of course it could all be much better, but in my opinion the rest of the features work pretty damn well, the GPS was the only thing to let me down.

Physically it's very similar to the N80 but after owning all 3 it reminds me more of the N73 so that's why I used it as a comparison. Comparing it to the N80 I would say it's on a completely different planet. That being said, I've loaded up 100mbs of music, 500mbs of video, 300mbs of photos and video taken from the N95 and I can honestly say the gallery runs as smooth as it did with 100mbs in it. Big improvement over the N73's as it began to run sluggish over a gig imo. After posing this question I've again exhausted every feature and option and taken into consideration the d-pad versus the wobbly joystick and my own personal opinion is the N95 is worth the additional $ when comparing it to the N73. I think I would have to lean towards smokage as I use it more and more. I've also been comparing photos I've taken with the N95 and the ones I took with the N73 and I can honestly say it's a great deal better in every situation.

imo the gps is really a non factor as it's use will be minimal for me. Overall the upgrades that fp1 offers and the lightning fast UI could possibly make it worth the $ but if those were the only differences I would say it's not worth an extra $300. Fortunately they aren't!

Great thread GT - I was actually planning on selling my N73 ASAP but over the past few days I've been reluctant. I'm going to give it a decent comparison once the N95 gets here and make a decision as to whether it's worth keeping both devices.

I agree somewhat but provided you learn it's limitations it can still be pretty useful which it's all it's really supposed to be I guess.

It certainly has a big screen at 2.4 inches and I didn't realize a slider was an advantage.

...of course you've had the N95 for 6 months so I guess you've got more experience with it.
