Is the Nokia N95 really the N73 Killer?

I'm resurrecting this thread as I've made my own final determination on this matter. The N95 is officially NOT the N73 Killer. It could be called the N80 killer for those that prefer sliders to candies but it's difficult to compare it to the N73 imo. The N73 was a simple design that other than the JS was close to perfect. You can hardly say the same about the N95. It may be only me but I'm realizing that no matter how much I like a phone I don't like sliders.

...in fact, current N73 and N93 users would be foolish to "upgrade" to this device as it's only marginally better at best. In fact, I'm certain there are members that went from a N93i to the N95 and were let down. I've yet to hear people report that but I'm sure it's the case. The N93i looks much classier to me..

In some ways I agree, but the 30fps 640x480 video, (slightly) larger screen, and the lack of joystick are the big pluses for me. And while the wobbly slider is annoying for a $750 phone, the creaky keypad and all around squeakiness from a $450 phone was more aggrevating.

To be honest though, my N95 only cost me ~$120 thanks to a low price via LetsTalk ($650) and selling my E62 (which was a free gift) and my N73, both of which have now become afterthoughts. But I'm sure the next time I see an N73 in front of me I'll probably get very sentimental.

I?m perfectly happy with my N73 basic (flushed to ME, then to IE, and back to basic again with a good third party MP3 player). I got N95, used it for 5 days and brought it back to the store. Besides it?s being too raw on a FW (something doesn?t work yet, that was perfectly working on my N73) ther are some more disadvantages I?ll mention later. On N95 I felt in love with slider design in combination with Best Keylocked app. This is what I?m missing on N73, but on N95 if you accidentally open slider to expose multimedia keys ? and slide it back ? Keylocked doesn?t work instantly -- you need to setup an idle time lock. Another great thing on N95 is a Screen size (great navigation with Tom-Tom) and ability to change font size ? a HUGE advantage for me. Built-in GPS is nice to have, but as of now not with lock-in speed not with available application usage it cannot be even compared to Tom-Tom or Route 66 with external Sirf-III GPS unit. I just cannot stay still for 10 minutes to get locked on a satellites in Manhattan to find out my direction ? I?ll get faster there just by asking for direction or opening Tom-tom as a map w/o GPS unit connected and entering cross streets as start and destination. The only good usage of built-in GPS was with Nokia Sport Tracker program that I?m using anyway for daily runs. I can wait 10 minutes to lock into my location cause I need time to warm my mussels anyway before I run. So for sport exercise I didn?t have to bring my external GPS unit, but N95 is bigger and havier than N73 ? so no big advantage here either. N95?s UI is way faster than N73 (but still gets stuck from time to time in one of the screens for a second or two). D-pad is really better than JS, but I think the ?edit? key is too close to d-pad for convenient ?marking? and ?highlighting? very slow and inconvenient ? and this is great part of my e-mailing and chatting life. Other than that ? it?s all FW bugs that will be fixed later. Battery life ? (no wi-fi usage). With same pattern usage as I do on N73 ? battery lasted from 6AM till 1:30 PM. ? 7 hours it?s not so bad, but definitely doesn?t work for me. I need something to last me throughout the day. N73 does this just fine. Yes I have chargers at work, home in my car ? but life through something unpredictable on us all the time -- sometimes there are an emergencies in our lives ? folks are we ready to carry $1G item for everyday use as a toy only?????
With N73 I can go for a sudden 2 day trip without a charger ? just I?ll be using it for limited e-mails check and calls and I?ll be sure my family can reach me and won?t be worry or I?ll call a police when I need it etc. I was one of the first who got s40 series Nokia 6125 or 6126 (do not remember exact name) (I had 3 (three) batteries to deal with during one day ? it?s horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I would trade my N73 now it would be E65 ? but I like the camera on N73. the bottom line ? I?ll give N95 another chance toward the end of this year when an USA version of 3G comes out, if by that time they won?t fix battery life to be a solid 12 hrs of usage (by FW tweaks or better battery) ? N95 is a history for me. By that time E90 might be my next aim.

It?s my 2c. what I was saying? Nokia is a great company but with it?s a profit driven company ? N95 came out with a delay. Why is that ? they had some problems (maybe battery life?) and the only dumped it on a market to compete with I-phone and LG Prada ? is to grab their market place while they can. They don?t care much about us (consumers) while we are buying $800 phones (some places in Eastern Europe it goes as $1500). Myself I?m a computer programmer in brokerage and my team is serving NY, London and Tokyo?s trading around the clock and I know that if there is a problem with a market report or some of your trades were not processed correctly ? it will be fixed by the morning (I remember as many as 80 people were called to work at midnight to fix problems so you (we all) won?t have another ?Black Monday? or ?Black Tuesday?.).

If Nokia would take such approach and paid their engineer?s overtime ? you would get perfect N95 ? but they do not need it. They stretched out thin to bring a new model to the market every single month ? who cares about us, users ? nobody, while we will continue to support (buy) substandard phones. IMHO ? N95 is substandard, e.g. ? it?s a flop not a hit.

Thanks for reading this nonsense.

I agree with GT.. N95 is not a N73 killer at this time due to the unstability of the FW. But if you give 3-6 months.. it will be as stable as N73 & then it would kill N73

Word.

All the hype for this device really puts you off once you buy it because you've already known pretty much everything it can do and seen pictures of it from every possible angle imagineable before you even buy it, as usual...

...and sure, the n73 has a great battery life and is a phone that I personally had a blast with.

But honestly...once you hold this thing in your hand and start enjoying all of the little things that the n73 lacks---you have pure smokage haha.

That being said, I still have my n73 tucked away in a safe place just in case

Don't get me wrong I do think there might be a separation in market segments between this phone and the N73 In the US I think it is an all or nothing deal. People either want the free phone or they want to pay a max of $100. If somebody is willing to spend $500 on a phone here in the US then they fall into that upper market segment that an extra bit of cash does not matter.
