Is the Nokia N95 really the N73 Killer?

The N73 is faster, has a much better camera, has a much longer battery life, a larger screen, stereo speakers, and I found it to be more stable, though I'm sure the N80 had enough firmware upgrades to make it stable as well.

I was completely satisfied sacrificing WLAN for all the benefits of the N73. The joystick sucked, the keypad was sketchy, but it was still a much better experience than the N80.

In my experience with both I would say each had their advantages and thus far the N95 has combined all of those in one package.

N95 positives -larger screen (meh...not that much larger)
built in gps (meh...a bit slow and sluggish)
faster processor (hoofa!!! no arguments...fast!)
3.5mm jack (that and the mini USB are crucial imo)
marginally better camera (yup)
better video (no doubt about it!)
t.v. out more novelty to me (agreed but when I travel it will come in handy)
better gaming and dpad is good (yup!)
wifi (yes again but for surfing purposes the N95 is fast on Edge)

I think the issue we all have here is price, no question n95 is an awesome device, but is the price justified, i think we must compare the n95 to devices in its class, and is the price justified, maybe to the top windows devices, because if u getting the n95 u want it for all its features, so what are the current prices for unlocked windows devices ie: htc devices, treos ect....

I always felt if the N73 had wifi or if the N80 had battery and camera I would not have bought the N95. Shizzle, if the N93 or N93i was quad then I would have kept that. I like the N95 but it is a bit over price and there is a lag in the OS. I've had to do a couple of resets already. Most of the functions are pretty much the same as the N73, N80 and N93 except now you add the 5.0 megapixel camera and GPS (damn slow and difficult to install the maps). Although it is not as big as I thought I like the feel and build of the N73. I was fortunate that my N73 was solid and didn't have those creeks. My N95 is solid too and there are no creeks. Is it worth another $400 over the N73? Not in my opinion. Add wifi and gps and give me the N73 for $550.

For the money difference, I'll get the N73. IMO the premium price for the N95 is not justified (no first hand experience with the N95, just from what I've read).

N95 positives ....
1) Fast GUI/Menu
2) Built in GPS - You can throw away that bluetooth GPS receiver you bought it for N73
3) MUCH better Music Player for me!! I am talking about the music quality here
4) EXCELLENT stereo speakers! Remember the annoying sound coming from N73 at high volume. That is no more in N95!
5) Bigger & sharper screen than N73
6) WIFI ofcourse not available in N73
7) Better keypad than N73
8) Repeatable alarm! Most awaited feature I know it is a FP1 feature, but not available in N73
9) 3.5mm jack, I can use my own Bose/Shure headsets directly. No need to worry about the poport to 3.5 mm jack
10) BETTER Camera than N73! N95 takes more detailed pics both in day & night
11) Smooth Videos than N73
12) A2DP
13) USB port
14) Last but not the least.. The great 'D' pad! That painful Joystick in N73

My verdict... N95 smokes over N73

I actually think while yes, it's not really a fair comparison, it's interesting, maybe important to show whether the differences in the two are worth the $300 price difference. Especially since the purchasers might be in my segment: N73 owners looking to step up.

For me, the two things that made me want to switch were wifi, bigger screen (not much bigger from what I'm hearing) and one feature many people aren't talking about, the 30fps camera to shoot video. Videography has become a hobby of mine and I love the idea of carrying one device to shoot quality videos to view over the web. The N73's 15fps vids are adequate but watching webisodes shot with the N93 (eg. Smartphone Show) made me drool.

That said, there are actually a few reviews out there that think the still 3.2MP cam on the N73 takes better quality pictures over the N95. I'm looking forward to doing a full comparison once my phone arrives.

One thing that is killing me on my N73 though are the creaks on the left side of the keypad. I've gotten used to them but it just makes the phone feel cheap. I long for the days of the Nokias five years ago that were just solid made phones (don't even bring up MIF, MBN - I will unleash hell on you! )

There's no question that the N95 is better than the N80. I think it's silly to say even the N73 is better than the N95. The question is, though - does the N95 smoke it enough to warrant the extra bucks? At this point, I'm not so sure... I may skip the N95 altogether and wait for something better.

He did, but I didn't respond to that since I think the N73-N80 dilemma is a matter of choice. If the N73 had WiFi there's no question I would get it, but no Wifi for me is a dealbreaker.

I agree with him in that the N95 is loads better than the N80 - but is it worth how much it costs? I didn't think so, which is why I voted for the second option.

I still haven't placed a vote in my own poll as it's tough to decide. The N73 was the best phone I had ever used up to that point but I later found out that it wasn't the best phone for me! I soon went back to another E61 and realized that for work and web browsing purposes it was a better fit. Now I know for a fact that the N95 is not going anywhere and is going to be my main N series for quite some time regardless of upcoming new releases. Its got everything you could possibly imagine to capture, create, and connect so it's without a doubt a keeper but perhaps the N73 could have been as well. I guess it's going to take people (including myself) some time to get used to all of the advantages to the N95 before we/I can finally determine the verdict as the N73 is one bad mofo and it took the N95 to make me realize it once again.

....and I'll be damned if that black godfather edition doesn't make me shake and shimmer all over..
