Is the Nokia N95 really the N73 Killer?

A ferrari's specs beat the **** out of a Vette but many experts would recommend the Vette for the value and performance. That's pretty much where this thread stands I would say. A ferrari is a ferrari and a Vette is...well, made in America but is the Nokia N95 a Ferrari versus the N73 being a Vette? I think they're closer than most would believe. It's more like a porsche boxter S vs a Porsche Cayman S quite honestly. (sorry about the car analogies if you don't know what the f I'm talking about.)

Yes people.....another N95 thread but I think this one will have some substance as the S60 community as a whole is pretty well versed in the N73. I pose this question because of members like Rcaddens unwillingness to switch to the N95 as they feel content with their N73's. Well, after a day with the N95 I'm having a tough time determining whether he's really wrong on this. I'm not going to rehash reviews or cover the obvious feature set between the two handsets but just pose the question: Does the N95 flat out Smoke the N73??

I personally don't know.....

also, no flaming as the N95 is one bad mofo and I don't regret it for a second but it's really a testament to how good the N73 actually is imo.

I'd compare it to the M700 Glofiish, but the camera blows. And sucks. Simultaneously.

Maybe that other new Windows Mobile device, the Athena or whatever it's been renamed now?

If the battery was better it would be the perfect phone for me. I just purchased another battery. I hope an extended battery comes out. I still love my N73. It was the best phone I owned.

as a current n73 owner and a future n95 owner the only problem for me is the battery life

so my vote would go for the n73 but the features on the n95 are impressive.

The N95 is like an overweight body builder. Sure, he can tow your broken down car back to your house for you, but he's bound to get tired every couple miles. The N73 is like a lanky marathon runner. He may not be able to carry your lumber home with his bare hands, but he can run efficiently with few water breaks over several hundred miles.

Voted B
Maybe when the price falls to $600, I might consider getting it.

But I realized I dont want a slider. What I really want is an N93i or an updated N90 with a USB port and GPS. I love their form factors. Transformers ROCK!

In the meantime, I'll stick with my N73. I think I'm in a very small group of people who like the joystick.

I hear what you're saying. If you want to stay German, I would say it's a 911 Turbo versus a regular 911. Same manufacturer, but one is top of the line, while the other is "entry level" (in terms of high performance sports cars) but is beloved by many enthusiasts regardless of price.

You could ask "Is the 911 Turbo worth the price difference over a regular 911 Carrera?" Just like the N95 and N73, I think the answer lies in what you want to accomplish with the cars/phones. If you could afford the 911 Turbo and want the exclusivity of owning the baddest boy on the block, so be it. Same could be applied to the N95.

But owning a 911 Carrera isn't a bad thing at all. Kind of like the N73....

Or perhaps it could be the difference between a GSXR 600 vs a GSXR 1000. Both are lightning fast but obviously the liter is the king...but the 600 is less intimidating, more affordable, and easier to handle.

lol...good analogy! Since posing the question I've been using my N95 exclusively plugged into my TV. While it's not nearly as clear as others i've seen it's pretty damn fun to play some games and surf the web on the big screen.

I'm with you on that point. I don't have a problem with the joystick. In fact it's one of the things that I really dig about the N73.

BTW, this is an excellent thread. I was getting a bit disgusted with all of those frivolous N95 threads. This is actually a topic that arouses some thought. And here I thought you were becoming a common post-wh........

P.S. I realize I'm still a relative noob here, and have no right to judge. Just thought I'd throw in my two cents

I think some people are starting to get caught up in this versus game and starting to misinterpret the N73 as a "bad" phone. I don't think this is the case at all. I still love that phone. In fact, my girlfriend will probably be picking up an Internet Edition in a couple days.

The N95 may have the features to smoke the N73 in almost every way, but some people just don't need their phone to cook them breakfast in the morning and don't want to spend the money to have it do so either.

I don't see how people are saying that the N73 smokes the N80. Are you bananas? Where is the WiFi? Where is the high res screen? The lack of joystick alone is a big bonus for me, and I have used both extensively.

Granted, if all you care about is the camera -- that's another thing. Overall, I think the N73 can't touch the N80. It was an issue with the battery life, but I can say with confidence that the newest firmware update has resolved this matter.

I guess in the end, its what you intend the use the phone for. Many people don't think of WiFi has a killer feature, for me it is. A lot of people listen to music on their phones; I'm an occasional music listener (I rather turn on the stereo in my car).

I found the N73 to feel 'cheap' to be honest. It didn't feel as robust in my hand as the N80, and after a month's use of both ... I felt that the N73 would be the first to break; feelings that were validated when our mobile shop started getting N73 with numbers that would creak, joysticks popped off, etc. Yet to receive an N80 with a hardware problem.

I have to say the n73 is an awesome device also, i cant say the n95 smokes it, but it just has so much more, its the battery life that hurts it in my opinion.

N95 positives -larger screen
built in gps
faster processor
3.5mm jack
marginally better camera
better video
t.v. out more novelty to me
better gaming and dpad is good
wifi
but not sure if its worth the extra 300 dollars, battery life and the out of memory issues is the killer here, nokia shouldve added more ram to this device, im even debating on returning it, but for what lol
