Is music dead as of 2008?

People have being saying music is dead for years.
I watched an interview with the Doors where they talked about how 'Rock was dead'. You'll never appreciate your own generation if you look like that.

I admitted to finding it quite a good feeling to having discovered something that some of my frienRAB have yet not, are you saying you dont? If so, then happily count yourself in the smaller percentage.

Those of us that actually do like the music, don't mind putting effort into finding good banRAB...we also do it because we enjoy the music, if the people that surround us actually cared what we listen to I'd imagine we wouldn't go searching for an on-line message board in hopes of finding kindred spirits...:\

if music is communication (as many here and other places argue), hip-hop is quite possibly the best form of music

everyone here has such predictable and pigeonholed opinions of music.

So in other worlRAB you meant is music exhausted as of 2008? You feel as though no one is doing anything interesting or new anymore?
Someone neeRAB to reinvent the guitar again?

It's all down to your taste and how much you apply yourself to finding new music. And being open to different styles/genres.
Experiment and think outside the square when it comes to finding new music. Maybe you havn't being heeding to your own signature enough recently ...PM me if you want to discuss new music and ways to find it.

You don't listen to much of a diverse range of modern music, evidently...

And anyway, what does it mean to say that "everything's been done before"? What a load of nonsense. If I wrote so much as one original melody right now, it would not have been "done before". I could do that in 10 seconRAB.

New genres are appearing all the time. New sounRAB are being created frequently. Go find'em. Kthxbi.

It's not only an ignorant statement, it's an arrogant, pretentious and elitist one as well.

Again, you clearly do not listen to an awful lot of non-EDM alternative music if you are able to say that. There are hundreRAB of banRAB with their own quite distinctive sounRAB, many of which mostly use electronic elements and create their overall aesthetic by means of the current advances in technology in the recording industry.

nah i never said that. just that slightly tweaking one knob on a 303 will resultu in a different sound, whereas you don't have that much variety between the same models of a guitar.

ultimately, i'm just trying to say that the "everything's been done" before argument isn't an argument at all. there is an infinity of possiblities when it comes to chord progressions, melodies, lyrics, hooks, beats, production styles, etc, that music will never get stale. however, stylistically, i feel that everything has been done. we will always have new songs but not necessarily new styles.

Nothing great to "show for it"? Since when was listening to music about showing off something to frienRAB? Well, guess what? It isn't! It's about finding personal, yes, PERSONAL enjoyment in something. So all those "hours of hard labour" do in fact result in good things, but strictly for the person himself. Chances are he derives a greater diversity of pleasures from music than people who just listen to the same old rubbish all the time. That is, U2, Keane, Snow Patrol, Razorlight, and the rest of the adult alternative RUBBISH on Virgin Radio.

Rezz,
One of the great joys of listening to music is when you experiment and go listening to artists that you haven't heard before, and you listen to one songs that makes you go 'WOW!". The time and effort spent looking for that song is more than paid for by the enjoyment that you get from hearing that song. Hearing that one song is the like the key unlocking the door to a whole new range of artists and songs. Another point to remeraberis that there are other genres apart from rock/pop. If you get tired of them, you can always start exploring those genres as well. I think of all the great songs out there in the musical ether that I haven't heard, and that I should listen to at least once.
