Is music dead as of 2008?

..Before criticizing him please learn what YOU are talking about. Composition or whatever...? (music theory, or common sense)

Also the standard Drum Bass Guitar format has many more styles coming. Think back a little bit, they had never thought of a reggae song, or metal song, or many many other genres for that matter. Im sure people were saying the same thing then, and did not think many good sounding genres were yet to come. Keep an open mind kiddo.

no this is like a disused meat freezer with holes in the walls, and through each hole sticks a different mouth with interesting opinions about music, occasionally vomiting a reel of tape for me to asserable and learn from. The lunch menu is pop tarts doused in cheap cider.

I disagree. Bush tries to be philosophical all the time, he always fails and makes himself look like an idiot, but dammit he tries.

But there was nothing philosophical about that post, its just stating the painfully obvious in a way that insults peoples intelligence, which Bush also does all the time.

How does that change the fact that you made a stupid generalization? I'm glad that you admit to being a poseur, but let's not try to pin that label on "90% of this board" aye?

congratulations on having reached the point where music goes from something being delivered to you and changes into something you looked for. it's a good thing. the ball is now in your court. are you a real music fan or just a fan?

Certainly. Not many that are popular now, save Flaming Lips, My Morning Jacket and Neutral Milk Hotel, like a little Arcade Fire as well.

Most of the indie I like is 80s and 90s. Pixies, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, dEUS, Pavement, stuff like that.

I also like post and math rock, which is associated with Indie, but oddly enough, also associated with prog.

I think you misunderstood where I was coming from. My post wasn't intended to be read in the sense that I think there are no good basslines nowadays (because that's not true).

I'm just referring to some of the rubbish 'basslines' which seem to be rife nowadays... you know... the kiRAB who just want to beef up their sound system and take their cars for a spin with the deepest bass possible. There seems to be a widening riff between 'loud' bass and well-written basslines.

It is true, indie's come full circle. Prog banRAB like Battles (did anybody actually like "Mirrored" from last year?) are now considered indie.

I would say though that on the basis of what you've written boo boo, you're probably more affiliated with "mainstream" indie and may not have heard enough of the scene on the whole.
