"If you're so depressed, how come you're eating pizza?" - Movie Board Club #9

Absolutely!

I like that term - Movie Therapy. That's why I watch a Disney, other animated, or other "children's" movie every night. Movie Therapy. Or, a way to look at the good and fight the depression.

And I loved When the Cat's Away, so I'll definitely see the second film.

I watched Killing Zoe over the weekend, and while it completely lacked substance, it was still a marvelous showcase for Eric Stolz. So, there is no bad, here.

I'm watching the Wilco documentary right now, and will finish it tonight. So far, I think I thought it might be more gripping as far as the story of the album production goes, but I like the music, so that's cool. (and it begs the question - does a documentary necessarily have to have "substance," or can it simply be a means of documenting an event(s), without commenting on said event(s)?)

Emilie - I hope you'll get a chance to see Ghost World if you haven't already. I think it's great and Steve Buscemi and Thora Birch are absolutely fabulous.

Has anyone had a chance to see A Mighty Wind yet with Christopher Guest and the other Guffman/Best In Show/Spinal Tap folks? I can't wait.

Okay, time to revive this thread.

13 Going on 30 was so adorable! Jennifer Garner acted like a believable 13yo, hehehe. :D

ed Tape! All three of the actors are solid, they're very good. I liked that movie because it kept me interested. The dialogue was sharp and perceptive, I really enjoyed it.

I haven't seen that many movies (have to save moolah), but at the beginning of summer I did see Wings of the Dove, which I thought was very interesting. It left me hanging a bit at the end, because I felt things were too unresolved, but Linus Roache, Helena Bonham Carter, and Allison Elliot all did good jobs. And the scenery in Venice was simply gorgeous. It was a scrumptious, sumptuous feast for the eyes.

Ah, yes! Another one joins our cult of guilty pleasures.

Isn't it wonderful? I swear I want to shake the hand of the person who thought of this.

It always impresses me when a movie (or filmmaker, or actor) can express so much without words. To create a compelling silent moment in a film is challenging enough, but entire sequences? That's another matter.

I can see why they could give the movie the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar: For resisting the urge for the characters to state the obvious.

Very, very excited at the new M Night Shyamalan trailer, The Village. Here's the link to the trailer.

I'm a bit fan of MNS, and the trailer seems to have that creepiness about it that Signs did, which to me is a good thing! And Joaquin's in it too, just got to wait a long time now until it's released...

Edited to say I'd forgotten how useful the Apple site is! Just watched Jersey Girl, Along Came Polly and The Ladykillers trailers too.

Along Came Polly has Philip Seymour Hoffman in it! Hooray - don't tell me, the Rom Com Guy's Best Mate

I wanna watch Spellbound coz it sounds interesting. I've been in a spelling bee, though one that's nothing like the National Spelling Bee. There was a set, er, set of words that we had to learn, so it was pretty easy. I choked in the tiebreaker though. I couldn't spell h-e-i-n-o-u-s.

Monsoon Wedding was interesting. I was actually expecting a Bollywood movie, so I was kinda disappointed there. But in any case, I liked it.

I love Lucas.

I liked Dreamcatcher, i thoguht it was much, much better than that Signs ****. It was easily twice as good. I was actually thinking abotu seeing it again.

I'm so with you on this! It's getting so frustrating!! There are these amazing DVDs coming out and I can't afford them.

But I have cable and I can watch some good films there too

Well actually I saw one last night that I never heard of before:
A Map of the World with Sigourney Weaver and Julianne Moore.

It could have been the worst possible movie of the week but it was treated more like an independent film. Very slow and great actors. It was pretty good!

I can't believe this thread is dying!

I welcome anyone who loves movies to post, even if you've never posted here before. :)

P Y R O - yeah, Love Actually was sweet, light fare. Good if you want a smile on your face but you don't want to think too much.

1. Yeah, that's the one.
smile.gif

2. I could... if I had the money. That's really the main factor, anyway.

Whoops! My bad - I was thinking of Cold Mountain, not Mystic River. Apparently Mystic River is quite good.
smile.gif

Sorry for the mix up.

Aww I love Sweet Home Alabama. Anytime I'm having a bad day all I have to do is watch that movie and it cheers me right up.

Can anyone provide a spoiler-less review of 28 Days Later? I'm thinking of watching it with some friends (no way in hell I'll be watching a horror movie alone).

Dancer in the Dark is finally opening in a few local theaters this week.
biggrin.gif

I know! I guess I just thought most people had lost interest in the thread.

I've seen a ton of movies, too - and you know, the more I think about Sweet Home Alabama, the less I like it.

Ugh - that's kind of ridiculous. I feel your pain.

Got it, mukooh - and watched it twice! That was fabulous. THANK you!

Oh, and I have to amend my statement - I have seen a lot of movies in the theater without knowing much about them, including Reservoir Dogs. I do it all the time. Don't know what I was thinking in my earlier post.

Mystic River was a good movie, it just wasn't great. It won't make my FFMA ballot for Best Picture, that's for sure.
