Have you received a new Smart Card from Bell?

To L2666 :

Dude you are so way wrong... except for the new 9242, most receivers with internal cards have already had their card slots activated... I guess you don't really work at BEV or maybe they're lying to you :)

About the receivers: nope. 4100/6100/9200s are cardless receivers except for some 6100s which have a card. Those are most likely refurbs in which the chip which acts as a smart card has failed. So the auxilliary reader is used in this case. As for the 800 #, I don't know, as I didn't take any calls this week so I didn't access our info headlines. Either it's gonna be done through Emily or by an agent...a regular tech agents as all techs are able to activate smartcards or receivers. We all use the same application, and we techs also do customer service such as billing and account management (programming upgrade/downgrades, movings, service calls, etc...).

I have a 3 year-old (or so) 4100 receiver with no smartcard (apparently it's built in) I was told when I bought it that it didn't require a smartcard. I have just received a new smartcard for it. Do I need to insert the card or will it update itself? I tried to get technical assistance but was going round in circles with the automated system.

I received cards for my 6100, 4700, and two 3100s. I did the swap Saturday and had no real problems.

I live in oakville, ontario got cards for my 4 receivers 5900, 4700, 3100, 2700

Wow, interesting thoughts.

You say the security issue is Bell's problem and not yours. Bell is trying to protect your interests and investment in their services by upgrading the security system so that others don't get for free the same thing you are paying for. In reality, are pirates stealing from Bell, or are they really stealing from you? Actually it is likely both, but the second one is the one *I* care about.

Most people would not think of it as a big hassle to pull one card out and pop another in, dial a phone number (or go online), punch in a few numbers twice in 10 years. Is it a tiny bit annoying? Perhaps.

Personally, I am happy to see that they are doing something about the (piracy) problem. Since the receiver is located in my house (and in fact I own all but 1 of mine) I do not expect Bell to schedule a time, send a tech to swap cards for me. I'm sure they could and would do this, but they would either charge the end user directly or increase everyones bill. Personally, I'd rather take the 3 minutes of my time, make the swap when I feel like it (within the time frame given - a week or so), keep my monthly payment as low as possible, and run a more secure system.

Similarly to your BMO issue, I too had a card replaced at one point (Amex in my case) and had to update a number of people with the new info but found this a minor inconvenience compared to what I would potentially have to do should the fraudulant charges not been stopped by the CC company. Police reports, sworn statements, lawyers, etc.

I read on another forum that Nagra-3 has already been hacked in Europe... so is Bell just wasting time and money with this card swap too? As I recall the Nagra-2 cards were also first hacked in Europe before Dish net and Bell even finished they previous swap-out. Now will history repeat it

I got my smart cards a few weeks ago and got everything going with a small hiccup.

When I put in the new smart card, the machine went to a different time zone. This immediately started a recording set for 3 hours in the future on my 9200. My other receiver synced up within 5 minutes of activating online but after 45 minutes my 9200 had not yet synced up. So I went into the menu system and cancelled the recording, and reactivated the 9200 and it was going within 5 minutes.

how do i change my vote in the poll?

Shouldn't the results of the poll slowly change to 100% yes as more and more people get thier cards?

Received new card today and installed, but when it came back up the US timeshifting pack channels were gone. I know I had it before because it was programmed in a favorites list and now that block of channels is purpled (or pink, whatever that color is). Looking at my programmed options, it looks like I'd have to pay $1 more that. Is it possible I was receiving those channels before by mistake?

Got my cards for 3 4100s and 1 6100 on June 16th. Haven't installed them yet. Location Markham Ontario.

Very interesting....Either there has been a change or the guy had no idea what he was talking about.
This is first I've heard of it. Anyone else???

I got mine in the mail today and installed the 3 (6100, 3100, 2700)
Activated them online. Total time from start to finish (including getting programming back) 20 minutes.:D

Echostar has purchased a company who specialize in reverse engineering of security products. I suspect they are trying to do such with N3 in order to make it as secure as possible before implementation.

Not like N2 which was already compromised in Russia and Spain before Dish and Expressvu implemented it in N.A.

Got mine a couple of days ago;

1 - 9200
1 - 3100

The Mrs' got a reminder phone call from BEV today so I figured I better get around to changing them. Took about 4 minutes on the 9200 and twice as long on the 3100.

In GTA with a 9200. Still does not appear to be conclusive if I am even supposed to get one. Some have posted here that it may get internal chip updated...others have stated will require a new card...so guess will wait and see.

I will go with Option #2; They guy has no idea.

To the very best of my knowledge there are no plans to roll out new cards for the 6141 or 9242.

Now, having said that, the Card #'s displayed on the 6141, is S04 and the new Cards are S06, or at least the one I played with this morning has an S04#, maybe some are different......

You are incorrect...

5900 all have smartcards...
Some 6100 had cards too...

I personnally still haven't received the new cards for my 2X5900
