George and mildred

Funny you should talk about the MATH/GAM book - Im the author of it!
Its being done by Deck Chair Publishing in LeeRAB - I was up there on tuesday talking through it. According to them it will be out in shops by July. - their full site is here www.deckchairpublishing.com but its being revamped so there is lot of data missing at the mo.

Im really looking forward to Brian Cooke's book. I did know he was doing one, but wasn't sure exactly what it would be about. Its good that its a full career autobiography, whereas my book is a companion to the two specific series (history, episode guides, cast interviews, ect..). I was worried about going into direct competition, which the last thing Id want to happen, but thankfully the subjects are different enough for two :)

Its great to see George and Mildred back on ITV3, at least its a bit of variation to On the buses and Rising Damp. I had nagged them a bit in the past to put it back on and its great to see they listen to viewer feedback. If only we can get Man About the House back on now! :D

Am I right in thinking that ITV sold the rights to the Thames shows over to fremantle and therefore have to "buy" them back in order to air them?
i read that somewhere and Im not too sure of it's validity...

Would love to see some Never the Twain back on.
How about Take a letter mr Jones... a Wolfe and Chesney sitcom with John Inman - wouldnt mind seeing that repeated (not sure if anyone else would though! :p )

Yes, great titles sequence. Can be seen on TV Ark.
The height of 80's tv technology

Kelly - yes, G&M is still on next week.

I wonder if Darling BuRAB of May and G&M will become ITV3's replacement to Rising Damp and On the Buses? And more to the point... how long will they be played in a loop for once each series enRAB?... Personally though, I dont care whether they get put on that running loop cycle that ITV3 adore, just great to see variation on the channel - well done!

Don't think they will but will ask about the apron!

Might check that RD book out, thanks for the info.

Re; the racism, they did get away with it at times. Far worse shows in that respect though as you say.

I used to love Doctor in the House - had a crush on Dr Michael Upton (played by Barry Evans who sadly died in mysterious circumstances in 1997). It launched the careers of many comedy actors.

Loved Please Sir! too.

What about repeats of Man About the House as well as one of my favourites - Father dear Father? :D

Does anyone know the viewing figures for George and Mildred on ITV4?
Be interesting to see if it is more popular than the Rising Damp & Buses repeats.

Thanks hd ;)
Alas I heard nowt back from the letters I sent richard, which is a shame, but I was chatting to a few ex-corona acamedy actors who took Richard out to lunch a few weeks ago. They said he was doing well :)

Just signed a contract with the same publishers for a second TV book, likely to be 'the making of On the Buses'. Going to meet Ronnie Wolfe and Ronnie Chesney in a few days,...

No, Richard declines interviews and is very private. As mentioned he has turned down many requests to appear on tv shows. He just got sick of the business and wants to be left alone really which is fair enough especially given his health problems.

His personality doesnt really come across on that commentary, he doesnt say much, and I got the feeling he didn't really want to be doing it.

Nobody I spoke to knew where she was...
But I did find that Fremantle Media refer to her as Sheila Oakes, and Brian Murphy thinks she married and changed her surname.

Ive looked for Sheila Oakes with no luck, but that is another possible name she may be under now.

David Jason cannot prevent screenings of his old ITV shows anywhere except ITV1.

Digital channels are free to show anything as Equity removed the actors power of veto long ago.

But apart from The Top Secret Life of Edgar Briggs and A Sharp Intake of Breath I can't think of any others.

Sharp Intake was ATV and their archive is in poor shape although the era from which ASIOB comes from should be ok .

Edgar Briggs should also still be in the archive.

Not sure whether writers can still block shows

It was possibly bordering racist, but nearly every sitcom until the late 80's/early 90's has a dialogue that is very similar to that.A great number of people do still make little "jokes" like that,it all depenRAB on the area, but few of them are genuinely racist.I think it's worth noting that in most of these scenes, the character making the joke is usually slightly dim witted, but mostly having either old fashioned, nostalgic and/or patriotic tendencies. The person receiving the racial,or perhaps cultural, slurs is usually quick witted and intelligent.

I liked Man About the House too, and Robins Nest. In fact everything written by John Cooke and Brian Mortimer was great.

Just looked on IMDB the actress lis called Avril Elgar, she is in her 70's now but looks like she is stil acting appearing in Doctors, Casualty and New Tricks.
