George and mildred

I do have a illogical liking for Nearest and Dearest, and while it's almost as badly written, acted and directed as On The Buses, it does have the Godlike genius of Hylda Baker to redeem it.

Unlike the useless BBC who are guilty of losing entire episodes of their Classic sit-coms, ITV have kept all N&D's episodes intact and have even digitally restored some B/W episodes.

They weren't Larry Dann and Paul Cole where they Tex? My frienRAB spoke to them about four months ago.

I'm going to buy your book from Play.com, it's advertised there but with no release date. Not a fan of OTB but best of luck with it, there seem to be plenty of people who do like it.

The press hounded the poor bloke back in 2001 when the Mail got the scoop that "he is a total recluse living at home with his son". I dont blame him for wanting to keep out of their way.

Mildred had a rather large fly crawling round on her hair during today's episode. It was there for a good 15 seconRAB. Can't believe they didnt reshoot it!

Don't know if this has been asked before on this thread but does anyone remember the first theme tune and titles for G&M. It had mocked up photos of them in their youth and different music.

I'm old enough to have seen them when originally shown, but was too young to appreciate the mild racism.

I know the characters were never racist themselves.

In Thursday's episode Mildred was surprised that her friend had adopted a black baby but wasn't upset just surprised.

I just think it is a shame that the writers made so much of the Dr being of ethnic origin.

I think Father Dear Father is perhaps too ordinary to be repeated now.
It never built up the following that MATH.G&M and RN did.

But there's lots of FDF out on dvd .
I think UK Gold were last to show it .
I don't recall it being on M&M or Granada+ or even Paramount.

I have a dvd of the Father Dear Father series they did in Australia a few years after the original.
There are similar Australian dvd's for Love Thy Neighbour and Doctor Down Under

Please Sir boxed set with all series and the film is often available under

Yes , now that you say it that name does ring a bell.

Maybe there are no repeats because they are all quite forgettable.

There hasn't been any repeats or videos of them since they were on although videos of ASIOB were planned but then cancelled

Thames TV were going to make a new series of
G&M when Yootha Joyce was taken ill and unfortunantly passed away. Sets had been made, and the actors were under contract.

Mildred did wear some nice clothes, but I notice she wore some of them more than once. Also, her jewellry seemed to be mostly flashy costume stuff. Lots of working class women were/are like her, though, and luckily not so many like Olive! Hmm, or are there? :D

There are always puzzling aspects in sitcoms, such as why did Richard marry Hyacinth, how did Sybil and Basil fall in love, why didn't Tom and Barbara and Margot and Gerry have children? :D I'm sure you can think of some more. In these cases I've mentioned it's more for convenience of scriptwriters and the comedy than anything else.

Its out on DVD is you want to see the full series. Only 6 episodes I beleive.

Just noticed G&M is on in the morning as well. Same episode as the 5pm one though

After Yootha passed away,ITV/Thames proposed another George Roper spinoff, but Brian Murphy turned them down out of respect to her.
