UCLA To Establish Gay Film Archive

UCLA is teaming up with Outfest, the gay and lesbian film festival, to create an archive of gay movies. It will be housed at the UCLA Film and Television Archive and include films dating back to the 1970s. Many of the films will be restored to their original quality using funds from the UCLA Center for Community Partnerships. "Having a centralized location for the study of these films at UCLA will foster the critical and historical study of LGBT [lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender] struggles at a time when they have assumed an ever-larger role in American culture," said UCLA Film and Television Archive Director Timothy Kittleson.

I just rented this movie from Netflix called "You'll Get Over It," and I loved it. It stars Julien Baumgartner as Vincent, a member of his high school swim team. He's very popular, has a girlfriend (and an older boyfriend on the side) and is well liked at his school. A new kid, Benjamin (played by Jeremie Elkaim of gay-themed movie "Come Undone" fame) starts eyeing him, and they eventually share a short kiss. Benjamin accidentally outs Vincent to some of Vincent's swimming teammates, and the news that Vincent is gay spreads fast. The movie then deals with how Vincent's friends and family deal with this new development.

It's a great movie, in French but with English subtitles. The acting is wonderful, and Julien Baumgartner is a revelation. I also enjoyed the subtle performance given by Jeremie Elkaim, who I'd seen (and loved) in Come Undone. I highly recommend this movie.

Here's a picture of Jeremie Elkaim and Julien Baumgartner:

i didn't happen to see one of my favorites on the list that's on the main page...under the "gay themed" category....'mysterious skin'....would you be so kind as to add it....

i also noticed that that there wasn't a documentary category on that main list either...there's alot that have been done and a few that i've watched...today in a theater i watched a documentary called 'outrage'.... which takes a look at conservative republican politicians who are alleged to be closeted "gays" and asks the question: what leads people to vote against the interests of a group whose affinities they embrace.....

i found the film to be interesting and timely considering that the california supreme court will announce this tuesday, may 26th, whether or not to uphold proposition 8, the ballot measure voted on in november banning same-sex marriage....

Hey everybody

Can anyone please tell me the film highlights for The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy?

I heard it is good but I can't find it at any movie rental near me and I don't want to buy it just to see it.

So could someone please please tell me?

finally saw Velvet recently. Lots of sparkly bits I must say. Haven't seen Wilde either sadly, though I want to.

I saw Jeffrey last night. It was the first gay movie I ever saw (at age 12 no less) but that was the first and last time I saw it until last nite when I discovered the satellite had a new channel: LOGO. Thank the starfish and little tadpoles. A whole channel! *dances* (though it might've been there for a while, as I watch tv very little now)

Ahem. Anyway. I have to get Jeffrey on vid. It's brilliant. Patrick Stewart and Michael Weiss. I have Prick Up Your Ears (starring Gary Oldman and Alfred Molina) my brother picked it up for me a while ago.

As you can see by my icon and sig, I'm into ****ing Amal again. I can't find my DVD anywhere :[ And I want caps but can't find any, either.

Okay, I see Charlie's Angels is listed as "slashiness". I haven't seen the movie in years, so can someone refresh my memory as to who the characters are that are slashy? It's Diaz's and Moore's characters, right?

I just introduced a friend to Latter Days. I was suprised that he hadn't seen it before, but he watches tons of movies and is usually the one introducing me to what's good. Of course he liked it.

hi...i wish i could.....i've looked far and wide for a decent sized movie poster for 'the mudge boy' and i can't even find that.........i've searched and i've searched....and as of yet there isn't any kind of release date for a dvd.......i was just luck enough to have seen it in a theater, when it was shown in a very limited release last year...but if and when it ever is released on dvd...i plan on renting a copy and making a backup copy for my own use.................

mukooh: let me know if you seen the movie "imaginary heroes" ;)
btw i saw the velocity of gary wow those kissing scenes between thomas jane and vincent d'onofrio were hot!

Linus Roache. If you watched Batman, he's Bruca Wayne's father.
Then there's Robert Carlisle (sp?) as his gay lover.

I saw Wilde! Jude Law... :thud:

How about "Total Eclipse?"

Did anyone see Loving Annabelle, I heard about it and then it just vanished. I was actually thinking about it the other day.

If anyone could fill me on the movie I would be grateful.
