Favorite Opening Scenes?

Heavenly Creatures when it first appears like a documentary of new Zealand then it's deeply disturbed as it trasforms into two girls screaming thru the park covered in blood and you then see footage of them running happily to their parents and back to being hysterical and when they finally reach help from someone they say in the camera "It's Mummy! She's terribly hurt!...Please! Help us!" and the introduction starts right there...very strong.

And I love the beginning of Titanic as it is, yes, very touching. With everyone waving from the ship in slow motion and the music and all...

You stole my answer! LoL, I love how Moulin Rouge starts off with a lonely and depressed Christian ready to tell his story to the world

SNATCH!!!!

With Turkish narrating and then the intros of all the characters. It is fab. The Into shows how the diamond changes hand with all the guys and doggie. It uses stop-action and film embelishments. Go watch it! I can't belive it was not said earlier. Really people!

The whole opening sequence in Serenity is just...awesome. It draws you in right away, and pulls you in for a non-stop ride. And who doesn't like a bad@ss Simon?

My favorite opening scene would have to be 10 Things I hate about you..."I don't give a damn 'bout my reputation!"

Highway; Jake Gyllenhaal steals a car with Johnny The Boy by the Desert Sessions playing in the background.

Not an especially great film, but a KILLER opening sequence.

Oh, and the opening sequence to 28 Days Later is pretty badass.

opening credits im assuming?? i'd go with lord of war
non credit intro i really like seven's

Oh come on... how has nobody mention any of the Indiana Jones movies?

That trilogy has some of the best opening scenes ever.

Back to the Future II, the camera shots flying through the clouds and playing the full movie theme. I just love it.

I think Sound of Music has also been mentioned. Another great one.

The Matrix...coolest opening ever! B/c at the time it came out, those effects and ideas were actually new and thrilling.

Star Wars...common..I mean, it's a classic and totally known for the blasting SW theme while the story scrolls upward.

Lion King - one of Disney's all time BEST. The music and the sun peeking over the horizon simultaneously still gives me chills.

I'm sure there's more. I think of them later.

Moulin Rouge. It was drenched with visual imagery, it was almost like sensory overload.

I second The Sound of Music and Chicago. Two of my all-time favorite movies, and the opening scenes are brilliant. I get such a thrill every time that camera zooms in on Julie twirling on that mountain, lol. And "5, 6, 7, 8!" has become a common saying for me.

I'm having trouble thinking of my other favorites. I'll have to ponder it for a while. But one I did come up with that I really do love is from The Others. The voice-over by Nicole is what really got me. You're sitting there in the dark, silent theater and you hear her begin with, "Now, children, are you seated comfortably? Then I'll begin..." (or something like that), and to me it was just so cool. I was like, "Yes, Nicole, I'm ready!"

That, plus the creepy storybook type pictures and Nicole's blood-curdling scream, made for a good start to the chilling tale that followed.

Amelie -- the BEST!
Lion King
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Sound of Music
Memento
Shrek 2 (w/ Accidentally in Love at the background *sigh*)

I've seen that Movie. Adorable Johnny Depp. I can't remember the opening though. But it's on TV all the time on Much Music or Much More Music (Canadian version of MTV)
