Favorite Opening Scenes?

Ichi the Killer.

There's a guy raping a girl and Ichi is watching outside. Then when the guy realizes he's being watched, you see semen dripping off the plants in front of the house. The cool part is how the title forms in the semen.

X-2 - Great fight scene with Nightcrawler breaking into the White House.

The Matrix - That fight scene with Trinity escaping from the Agents and policemen is one of those scenes that leaves you in awe.

I love the Horror/Thriller Openers

The Ring - (Priceless)
Primal Fear (I Love Eye Grabbers)
Scream 1, 2 & 3
Final Destination 1 & 2

Shrek
Shrek 2
Bend It Like Beckham - I love how they actually have Jess playing in the soccer game.

The opening of Fellowship of The Ring is magical :)

I saw The Royal Tenenbaums and the opening is very memorable. The part with the narration and it is like Margot's playwrights. I can't help but laugh out loud but feel mesmerized all at the same time.

My favorite opening scene is from Titanic. It's really simple, but it just . . . I can't explain it. I just like it a lot. It sticks with you.

Also like the beginnings to Moulin Rouge!, Romeo + Juliet and The Others. Also, I can't really remember the beginning to Catch Me If You Can (my mother refuses to buy it on DVD . . . thank you, dear mother), but I think it was Leo/Frank in the prison and then he tries to escape?

Or he was on a plane or something. Anyway, I think the beginning is cool, but I can't quite remember it

Oh yeah. I loved Jason Statham's way of talking. And the part where he says the thing about Tommy: "He tells people he was named after a gun, but I know he was actually named after a 19th century ballet dancer.." or something.

Speaking of Statham, I also liked the intro car-chase in "The Transporter."

All cool.

Girl, Interrupted: I love how it starts with all the girls sitting together in silence in a dark room at Claymoore while it's raining/snowing (don't remember exactly which) outside the window and you can hear a Simon & Garfunkel song as well as Susanna's voice-over.

Final Analysis : I love how the credits roll on typical dream images (the flower, the gun, the fire etc...) before this great close up on Diana(Uma Thurman)'s face as she's talking to her shrink (Richard Gere).

Edward Scissorhands : Totally love the movie from beginning to end. The opening credits in the darkness of the castle look great but the first sequence as an old Kim (Winona Ryder) tells her granddaughter about the story of snow is also very beautifully filmed. The atmosphere is really warm and comfortable.

Ed Wood : Another masterpiece by Tim Burton. Totally love the introduction with Criswell (Jeffrey Jones) sitting up in the coffin and how he paid tribute to the credits of Plan 9 From Outer Space.

Vertigo : The extreme close-ups on Kim Novak's face and the whirl of colors during the credits are absolutely brilliant.

Pirates of the Caribbean like a few people here I just loved when he comes in on the sinking boat!! The best!!

Jaws... when the girl is in the water very freaky!!

E.T. the lighting and mood was great!

Men in Black was quite a good one...
I liked Shrek - it was soooo funny. I`ve seen the movie three times now, but I can still laugh about that scene
Lord of the Rings - summed up a lot in very little time...

Keep hope alive!

LOTR of course esp. the one in Fellowship, the Galadriel speech, puts you right in the heart of the story. And a true beginning of a wonderful epic.

When my 13-year-old cousin saw the movie for the first time and realized it was Tom Cruise, not Mike Meyers playing Austin Powers, he was like: "Eww, Tom Cruise! I don't want watch this! Let's not watch this!"

These are the ones I can think of:

Lotr:The Fellowship of The Ring- The beginning was pretty good, it basically tells you what is going on and you can feel the mood.
X-men 2 - I really liked the special effects that made that purple guy do the whooshy thing.
Shrek- The opening scene is the funniest thing I've ever seen so far. I just loved how he was taking a bath in all that goo.

^ and that of course--

but i though MIB 1 was a good opening--very original. then again the whole thing is pretty orginal

I so need to buy this film - and yes, it was a really interesting opening segment.

Hmm...I don't remember the opening to Bring it On - what happened?

:tabasco: Blade
:tabasco: Kill Bill
:tabasco: Tomb Raider
:tabasco: Queen of the Damned

Igby Goes Down - for some reason I find the opening really funny.

You're just kind of like, wtf? Morbid, I know.

Kill Bill - awesome opening. "Bang Bang" is the perfect song.
