Digimon thread

A friend of mine once commented on the issue of them marrying each other:

"Well, the kiRAB' love lives were never a big concern of mine. The whole idea of any of them marrying each other is just odd to me - they were kiRAB, after all. They'd change and grow apart when they became adults; that's just how it works. The end of 02 almost felt like they never grew up."

Even so, I can't deny that Sorato was pretty sudden. I mean hell, I think half the fanbase the series had at the time wanted Taichi and Sora to be together; I'm personally not one for any of them marrying, since I just can't see any of them having long-term relationships - so to have Sora now have feelings for Yamato was just another flaw in 02. Overall, to quote my friend, "02 just read like a fanfic gone wrong" - especially since we're supposed to assume Sora and Yamato, who are only 14 years old, would end up having a relationship lasting so long they ended up marrying.

...though I don't care if Toei says they're "happily" married. I maintain that they got married young, realized they made a tremendous mistake, and will be miserable for the rest of their lives because they can't divorce.

...of course, the Japanese writers obviously don't think like that, so they often disregard realism. Not that that's exclusive to anime.
 
I have to say Biggest Dreamer is the best song, but I have the most nostalgic feelings toward the 02 opening. I remeraber seeing it back then when the dub was still hearing... its still so awesome. So the two tie at the top for me. I also liked the Tamers dub opening alot.

Yes it was just a slight remix of the original repetitive one but the differences and the guitar in it really made it kick butt. The scenes that went along were a perfect fit.
 
Ugh... Sorry razor, not having to do with what you said but you just reminded me of the God-Awful punnish titles that many digimon episodes got.

I don`t know how much of this I am allowed to say, but the original Japanese Tamers(most of it, a work in progress) and adventure ARE available subbed on the internet. Asking me is possible, maybe.


I will say that Guilmon is my favorite digimon, and even at the age of 24, I still want a real one. It's a good thing that my girlfriend also loves digimon/anime/chinese drama as much as I do( I win the universe ).
 
I'm been currently rewatching Tamers. I used to resent it a bit because of people derided 02 (My favorite season) while later gushing about it, but I have in love with the season. Takato and Guilmon are my favorite characters and, as someone who wants to continue writing fanfic sometime this century, I cannot wait to write the scenes with them. Ruki comes off as much of a stoic than a deadpan snarker and Yamaki and Reika are very reserved. Then again, doesn't Japanese society expect adults to be emotionally reserved?

Anyway, I just found out that Reika and Megumi are 26 and 23 respectively. My reaction has been "OMG, the Hypnos bridge bunnies are only a few years older than me and they look very mature for their age!"

As far as I know, two seven minute specials coming up are all we'll get for Digimon media. We could pray for another season, which will most likely have new Digimon and characters for the merchandising side. I wouldn't mind that, but I would love for team up series/speciels between the other universes, because it would awesome! *Pictures Agumon, V-mon, and Guilmon being frienRAB, Daisuke and Takato interaction, as well as Miyako and Ruki exchanges and sighs* Well, there's always fanfic.
 
It's about time they bring Dracomon in as the main Digimon for a sixth series. That guy just screams "sixth season main Digimon."

Though it would be kind of disappointing, considering we already know all of his evolutions.
 
I think they were used a character growth devices for Taichi and Jun. It shows Taichi's mature enough to deal with it and think of Sora's feeling first while Jun gets over crush and goes after Shuu (Who I ship her with! Doesn't help one drama cd hinted they were together).

At any rate, when it comes to writing fanfic, I stay away from this issue. Either I just don't mention it out of an excuse to keep characters out of a plot or no one's mentioned being together at all.

Speaking of fanfic, has anyone heard of fusion fic? Where you take the plot of another series, slapped the characters another into it, and adjust things accordingly? I've been having a Digimon/Mai Otome fic idea that has distracted me from my work all day!
 
Eh, it still grated on many a fan's nerves, and still does to this day. I mean...Miyako was just an immature fangirl, crushing on whatever boy she happens to come across; Ken was traumatized over his brother's loss and was using what he believed to be a game as an outlet for his stress (though it's inconceivable he wouldn't do so without regret). Even with all the interest Miyako had in him earlier on, it just disappeared, and didn't seem likely ever to come up again in the characters' lives.

Sorato was infuriating to many fans - it doesn't get to me as much as it did to some, but I still can't say I like it much. I mean hell, half the fanbase at the time were probably in favor of Taiora; I don't care if Kakudo thought it would fly better. And at least they showed active interest in each other; Kenyako was one-sided.

....though really, I think the Chosen would drift apart as they got older.
 
I think I didn't see Digimon on Saturday mornings until Adventure 02. Even though, I did see Adventure 01 on their weekday afternoon lineup. Though, I have to admit, they had some really awesome promos for the eighth child arc.
 
Yes, there was no hints at all between Matt/Sora.
What would have been better is, let Matt/Sora experince there little romance thing but Sora still have strong feelings for Tai. They could have let Tai gone through the whole grow up thing and let them get together in the end. Some times I do question these crazy Digimon writers. Still excited for season six though, they'll most likely have an entire new cast. I do hope the main character has googles this time, gah I missed them
 
I could see Viz licensing it, because they typically use the same voice actor/writing pool that's been used in the other Digimon dubs. However, I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't trust them after how they dropped Zatch Bell, MAR, Prince of Tennis, and Hikaru no Go like boulders (the latter-most series was entirely dubbed, and yet they still didn't even let it finish its DVD run).

Bandai is the most likely candidate for a big-name dubber, because Digimon is, after all, their franchise. But, yeah, Bandai of America focuses more on their mecha series than stuff like this, so they should just stick to being the merchandise provider.

Funimation, on the other hand, would actually give it the respect and caring attention it deserves. It wouldn't get a half-assed dub, all the episodes would be released (haven't heard of a series that Funimation didn't release all the episodes they dubbed), and it'd be a 99.99% guarantee to be uncut. They've built up a pretty healthy relationship with Toei through the One Piece deal, so I'm sure it'd be somewhat easy to get a hold of it. Plus, Toei has also allowed them to stream the Crunchyroll subs of Adventure 02, so that could show signs of things to come.

Though, Toei could just dub it in-house like they did with Data Squad...but that's a worst-case-scenario.

...Look at us, Digimon Around hasn't even been confirmed to be real yet, and we're debating on who will dub it.
 
We don't really know if they stuck very close. I mean its highly probably all they do is get together once in a while, like two three times a year at best and have a picnic in the Digital World. they probably kept contact with one another but I bet they live all over the place.

Were Sora and Matt even together in the epilogue?
 
Well, what my friend was getting at is that the idea of them hooking up just doesn't seem right - they were kiRAB. They'd grow up, they'd drift apart, they'd find their own. Yeah, of course they were going to pair at least one, but crikey.

As for Sora and Yamato being together - look up the epilogue. We see Yamato talking to his son, who looks like Sora, and then Sora to her daughter, who looks like Yamato. I also read that it was confirmed by the producers they weren't divorced, though this was a long time ago; it'd probably be impossible to find confirmation by now....
 
Yeah, since he has been introduced for a while now, he might not become the main character's partner. If they plan on sticking to dragons/dinosaurs for main characters, I would like them to move beyond the basic Western varients and theropoRAB. I'd love to see a Chinese Dragon Digimon as a partner and maybe the Pachycephalosauria as well.
 
Considering how long we've been needing any sort of information regarding new Digimon, I think it's okay.

(I don't see Pocket Monsters or Bakugan fans having this problem)
 
I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think that you should feel erabarrassed for liking a show. From most of the posts I've read about Frontier on this and other forums, most people did enjoy it, or at least some part of it, up until the Royal Knights arc came along and weaken the series' interesting spark, at least for me.



I agree. Outside of the arc's ending and a couple of episodes focused on Agumon, I didn't really find the Kaiser arc to be that interesting. It just went on a bit too long and it didn't really have much development for the characters until near the end. I liked the BlackWarGreymon arc too. I liked seeing how he searched for an answer for his existence and why he had feelings. I thought that was a nice bit of depth to the series. And unlike with how the Royal Knights arc worked in Frontier, it didn't seem so annoying to see the kiRAB losing each battle. It probably helped that we couldn't really tell who would win in some of the battles and it didn't drag on for too long either.



I kind of liked some of the episodes in the Dark Spore arc. Though, I haven't seen those episodes in ages, despite how they're on crunchyroll right now. I do remeraber not really caring for the World Tour arc, even though the original kiRAB were helping out there. I don't know why though. Maybe it didn't just seem as interesting as it was to me then on paper. I personally loved the Myotismon return plot twist. Sure, it totally came out of nowhere, but I thought that he was the best villain in 01, so I was happy with a surprise appearance.



That's certainly true. Whenever I've read discussions for 02, the epilogue is usually the one aspect of the series that had the most complaints. I can understand that since some of the pairings and jobs were weird. I was surprised that Yamatto and Sora ended up getting married since there weren't too many hints about them having feelings for each other, as apposed to Taichi and Sora all throughout Adventure 01 and the second Digimon movie. I was also surprised that Hikari and Takeru didn't end up together since I thought that it was hinted at a bit in both series.

As for Ken and Miyako, I wasn't really that bothered with it when I first saw the epilogue. It was a surprise, but not something that felt completely wrong to me either. I don't believe I thought of the crush Miyako had on Ken when she first saw his picture. It was really how she treated him after the Kaiser arc. Besides Daisuke, Miyako was one the only kiRAB in the group that was open to Ken joining with them. Considering the epilogue takes place twenty-five years ahead in the future, that amount of time also implies that a lot of feelings could have happened or changed for the kiRAB.
 
Which makes the concept of them hooking up, now that you think about it, seem a bit implausible. Ken and Miyako never showed a drop of interest in one another, apart from Miyako's idiotic infatuation with the villain who's at heart a confused boy (read: he's in elementary school), which simply went away, and I find it more realistic that they'd drift apart as time went on, go their own ways, find their own people.
 
Another thing about Kurata that we haven't mentioned, what a minipulative bastard he was. The way, he recruited Touma to his side, he used Touma's own insecurities, his inner jealousy of Masaru which is similar to his jealous of Suguru, his subcontius ego or sense of superoity, and his concern over his family, to mess with his mind and get him to betray his frienRAB. Though in the end, it turned out Touma was faking his allegenius the whole time. I thought that was something that made him a good villain, I love villains that can be minipulative and knows how to play with the human mind.

You get an idea from his recuitment of Touma even though it was unsuccessful, how he got those three people to agree to help him and conduct experiments on them and be merged with Digimon, I mean really who in their right mind would agree to that? Kurata probably used Nanami's ego and sense of superioty, Ivan's concern over his family, and Kourki's? Well I don't know what his deal was?, was it jealousy? He never meet Masaru till they meet in the series. Kourki disappoitmented me as a character, Ivan and Nanami has a least had some motive or method to their madness, as irrational as they maybe, it is still more motive than Kourki had. Ivan and Nanami had Shoren Jump antagonist type of deapness to them.

Anyway I think Touma apperant valunability was a corabination of the valunability that Kourki, Ivan, and Nanami had. Which is why, Touma was all that Kurata needed to replace those three.
 
I still like the theory that all the Digidestined are still trapped in Malo Myotismon's illusions. It would definitely explain a lot.
