Digimon thread

Now that was funny. I thought that Iori looked more like a sad and lonely child, despite the fact that he has his Digimon partner and his frienRAB there with him.

My favorite movies are Our War Game and Runaway Locomon. The first Digimon movie was nice too, especially the ending with its own version of Butterfly. Hurricane Touchdown made a lot more sense to me subbed than it did dubbed, but I didn't think that it was too exciting. The second Adventure 02 movie was more enjoyable, especially with the fight scene. I thought that the first Tamers movie was too sad due to a couple of deaths in there, but it was interesting. I thought that the Frontier movie was kind of boring for some reason. I remeraber that I kept on thinking throughout the movie that the plot felt like a rehash of the plot for the series.

As for the opening themes, I love Biggest Dreamer the most as well. It just felt like an appropriate opening for the series and it worked so well. I loved Frontier's dub opening since I was so tired of hearing the same show for each series by that point. Plus, it was a really nice song to being with and it worked for the series as well.

Yeah, I can't stop laughing at how they (the chosen children) just happen to start winning..
when the whole damn digital world was 3/4'THS gone

You're not alone. I'm sure a lot of people found Frontier at the very least relatively decent as they caught up with the concept. Royal Knights arc just killed it is all.

Tailmon's Japanese voice is such a freaking tease (Now, that's the adult level)

Man I haven't watched Digimon in years. Season 1 was great, though parts of the dub sucked-I knew as a kid that a bad guy wouldn't send a henchman to "A Digi Dungeon" for his incompetance- Season 2 didn't feel right, and never watched Digimon again after Season 3. It would be cool if they could redub Season 1 and release it for DVD.

I enjoyed season 2 after the Kaiser arc, personally. He was an interesting character, but I think the arc dragged on a little too long.

Now the BlackWarGreymon arc, that was fun. I don't know why I enjoyed it so much, I guess it was just kind of fun never knowing if the Digidestined were going to win or lose each battle.

Not a huge fan of the Dark Spore arc. I don't think the series fell apart, though; it was when everything came to a head. And Myotismon's return was definitely a huge plot twist that came out of nowhere, but he's my favorite villain, so I'm not complaining.

I think a lot of complaints the viewers have over 02 is the epilogue.

Iori wants to be happy, but his character design restricts him.

I'm going to have to third the notion of Biggest Dreamer being a great opening and the Frontier dub opening being a nice change. I also have to mention Target, since it happens to be stuck in my head right now. Wada is awesome.

I know is like the third thread this weekend about Digimon, but expect them, a new series was just announced! Anyway I am wondering how faithful the dub of digimon is, I am asking this since I have been a huge fan of Digimon's dub for years and I know from another certain shonen anime with many series that the dub and sub can be very different. So could anyone shed a few answers on the question?

This is basic character analysis. Characterization is no good if you just TELL the audience flat out what's going on in a character's head.

And it lines up perfectly if you pay attention to the facets of his character. You said "why would he use digimon if he hated them?" He's using them as raw materials and as guinea pigs. That's not just a facet of fiction, that's part of actual HISTORY.

Well,
All the Digimon dubs tend to be typical made for TV dubs. Meaning that jokes are added in and personalities are slightly altered.
That being said Digimon throughout all the series tended to stay remarkably close to the Japanese version. Season Three (Digimon Tamers) was the close the series got to a proper almost accurate dub in terms of translation and fitting voices.
The dub (and plot) was at its worst in Frontier where several characters were severely miscasted. It got better, but it seemed far less polished than the previous dubs.
The Adventure dubs weren't entirely accurate and got more jokey/punny during the later half of season one through the beginning of season two which really hurt the finale for season one when the main bad guy was far more sinister in the Japanese version. Still, after seeing Digimon 02 on Crunchyroll subbed the general gist of the dub was decent/watchable.

I have no opinion on Savers/Data Squad since I have yet to watch it.

O-chan

I can see why. I mean, they'd stay frienRAB, but....as time went on, they'd drift apart. Quoting a friend, "it almost felt like they never grew up."

That, and Sorato/Kenyako. Sorato was, surprisingly, the more despised of the two, but at least they had something - Kenyako was out of a hat, and disgusting. Once again quoting my friend, "yeah, Ken did some pretty bad things when he was the Kaiser, but he doesn't deserve THAT!"

That pretty much sums it up. I would like to point out though, that when I first saw the Japanese version SkullGreymon-episode in season one, (16, I believe?) I noticed that the dub was in fact remarkably accurate in that particular episode, as I recognised practically every single line from the dub. Admittedly, this was the ONLY episode I noticed was like that, but I still think it's worth mentioning.

Heh. Only the Bio-merging Ultimate evolution was copying G Gundam. Nudity and all.

Speaking of which, I'm still amazed that Disney left in the nudity in Frontier. Then again, it's not like they were just going to make a whole new evolution sequence.

That bothered me SO much. I never understood that. You have this great plot device in one episode, that seemed to me like serious foreshadowing of a greater event, and give it ONE more episode.

Submarimon, the Aquaman of Digimon!

Yeah, I think whoever was in charge here forgot that even though you can seriously focus on big Evolutions of 2 or 3 characters, the other characters still have to do stuff. The characters in Digimon Adventure that weren't Tai or Matt (Dub names!) had plenty of development and stuff to do in the late episodes.

I demand this topic be renamed "Digimon: The Kurata Debate Topic."

BTW, Anyone want to talk about the movies? I love Omnimon (Omegamon) and Diaboromon (Diablomon).

let see

Rosemon and angewoman were my favorites

metal garurumon was awesome

Kazemon and zyphermon were decent

I hate HATE the savers leader "have a problem.... just punch it*

Speaking of the dub, which company will get the english license for Digimon AROUnD, you think they can get companies that don't edit much out before they give to the network. Meaning at best uncut episodes on DVD releases. Hopefully a company like FUNImation, VIZ, or Brandai gets it, but I doubt it.

One can only dream of a dub that has the same music. If it is on Disney XD, they air Naruto Shippuden which has Japanese music in it. One can only dream. As far as writing goes, the Savers dub was far superior to the rest, I hope they improve on the dub even more and keep it close to the Japanese version.

I hope we don't have any Sailor Moon dub like gender changes like they did on Frontier.

I didn't think that Takuya and Zoey was a popular couple. Granted, it probably helps that I've seen more people disliking Frontier than liking it. I don't remeraber thinking that they could be a couple since I don't recall seeing a lot of interaction between them that hinted at their feelings. With Tai and Sora, there were a lot more hints that they liked each other. Part of the second movie showed that they kind of liked each other.

I thought that you were just going to talk about the finale for 02, which showed that neither Tai and Sora or T.K. and Kari didn't happen. To be fair to those couples, the finale did take place many years into the future, so we didn't see if they tried to develop relationships and it didn't work or if those feelings just faded away with time and age.

Not Viz. Never Viz. Don't really trust Viz too much nowadays.

Bandai would be okay but they're not exactly known for punctuality.

FUNi would be the ideal choice but they're not really the "toyetic anime" type. Too bad, FUNi would be the only way I would get a boxset of Digimon...anything too.
Oh come on. I regularly hate that too but it was one gender change and it was to a Digimon that was already pink and had no real face. I think that was the one time that it was somewhat acceptable (just that one though)
