chile miners rescue bbcnews24 or sky news

Yonni, and who was that woman who greeted him? It was confusing as some reports said it was his sister and other's said it was his wife.

I wondered who the other's were too.

What suprised me was that for a mainly Catholic country, many of the miners had been in unmarried long term relationships.

The Chilien President has had more coveragein the last 12 hrs along side the minors rescue. Thats what i call a dedicated president. Chile has a greact community. Lovely to see the reunitings with family. :) :)

Was there a need for 24 hour blanket coverage?

I would guess 24 hour news channel X wouldn't cover such events relentlessly if 24 hour news channels Y and Z didn't exist.
ie channel X doesn't want to leave the event in case something noteable happens and channel Y or Z get to capture the incident live. ie channel X would appear disinterested and 'slower' than Y or Z.

However is speed and capturing everything live important?
Isn't it more important to offer a balanced and varied news output, opting back into live events when something noteworthy has actually happened?
The news channels seem to disagree with my view.

Gosh, I feel humbled this morning. Those amazing news pictures will stay with us all for a very long time. It's funny how the little things really make an impact. There's something so touching about the snippets of background detail: the man whose hobby was making ships in bottles, and the little girl holding the notebook and pencil. The smile on her face when she joined in with the "Chi chi chi, le le le" chant was absolutely luminous. (Did anyone else go to sleep with that chant ringing in their ears, but in a good way?) :)

What a wonderful, uplifting human story. And a happy ending for everyone.

Dipped in and out all day but have been watching now for a while and will watch until the conclusion. There are still 6 people to go, including 5 rescue workers. I'm not 'watching for something to go wrong', rather watching for everything to go right.

I've been impressed with Emma Hurd's commentary on Sky... much more soothing than Matt Frei's barking on BBC.

Let's hope things will be completed.

I was astounded at the excellent organisation and dignity of all the Chilean people and the immense dedication and bravery of all concerned.
For once we had a really positve human story where people and countries all came together to ensure a perfect ending to rescue those trapped miners. Wonderful outcome. :)
