Call from BEV to "inventory" my receivers

The receivers are dialling every 60 days another poster reported...then if we coudn't verify that way you get put on the calling list. But hey, there are other thouusand of suscribers that probably are on the same list so you might not get called frequently. You feel that's not enought? Well it's already too much accoriding to previous posters...

ARR, what does this have to do with this thread? The BEV bashing in every thread of this forum is annoying and getting out of hand...

You have to consider is the cost of dealing with it worse then the benefit you gain by doing it?
I have wondered this as well
Definately the $$$ could be put to better use
We will never know how bad, or how much money is lost to account sharing, but i dont think it is as much of a problem as flat out piracy
I guess Bell cant win, we will complain anyways until they get things under control

That's the whole thing. Bell is in no position to SPECULATE! They should have facts! I am highly annoyed with Bell and their lack of respect to their current customers.

So you should be slamming Videotron for removing the benefit to its competitors re: cottage policy.

Bell needs to be more aggressive with pirates, yes. But your post implies that somehow they receive some benefit with their current 'security'.

sorry, but I don't believe it has anything to do with location except generating a unique id number, which is changed every so often. I know of someone who unplugged a receiver , left it unplugged for a day, and it was deactived due to this issue in discussion. The receiver did not leave his house at all!! On the OTHER side, I know of a situation where there ARE 2 receivers at 2 different locations AND the owner has never had a call..... kinda hard to explain THAT one I think! ;)

Not only extreme but ridiculous. Now, if she takes off her clothes, lays down on the floor, says "Come and get me boys" and then claims rape, that would be a closer analogy to EV's actions. :p

Here is my analogy. It is against the law to leave the keys in your car. That's because it makes it too easy for others, often inexperienced teenage drivers, to steal the car and cause serious injury to themselves and other people. Not only is leaving the keys in the car dangerous, it also encourages theft by people who would not otherwise be able to steal an unlocked car. EV is like the person who leaves the key in their car and lets the car get stolen repeatedly. They know they are facilitating crime and causing injury to third parties but don't care. Even worse, they accuse every teenager they see, even honest ones, of being a car thief. Yes, stealing satellite signals is a crime. Making it too easy and facilitating the theft should be illegal as well. Probably, the only thing preventing this is political influence on the part of EV and Canada's weak libel laws.

And, yes, seriously!

"You have 3 receivers A-B and C... A and B are home and you bring C at the cottage. Before leaving you have to call us to let us know that you would bring C at the cottage and we would deactivate A and B from your account."

Oh, everything is crystal clear now.
ROTFLMOL

You just made my day. I haven't had such a good laugh in a long time.
;)

if people are splitting the sat bill between two different cities or houses.....during the verification couldnt you just call the other person and give them the location ID of the other receivers in the other location....

so...how does this verification prevent anything....just dont pick up the phone when they call....and when you return their call make sure you have the other receivers info that your splitting...

am i wrong somewhere here

Hey, I think how Bell handles this is absurd, but I don't have a big problem with them in a general sense making calls to ensure things are ok. Now CSRs making calls know so little about how things work is part of the problem. Cutting people's accounts after one call and it not being returned is a bit much.

At airports, I hate standing in line and going through security and them searching my belongings, but I am willing to go through that hassle in order to fly. So innocent people are inconvenienced in order to ensure laws are enforced and travel is safe? Yep.

Now, safety is not an issue with Bell obviously. But are people inconvenienced by a phone call to check receivers? Yep. Is it really that big of a deal to receive a call? I don't flip out at a cop when they are doing a CHECK STOP on the side of the road. HOW DARE YOU STOP ME AND ACCUSE ME OF DRINKING AND DRIVING? But, I suppose some people do.

As a citizen and in this case, as a customer of a company, I understand that they are trying to ensure everything is cool. If I didn't like it, I would switch to another provider.

To be clear (and to make a long story longer), I am ok with the phone call to check, I am not so okay with shutting down service without repeated attempts from Bell to contact the customer. But after that, I am good with it.

"Anyway, too much BS for taking a receiver camping. I just take it now whenever I go."

Agreed. No point flogging a dead horse with Agent X. You'll just get another recitation of company BS from ExpressVu if you engage in debate with him on the camping issue. Let's not encourage him.

It's like arguing with the God Squad when they show up at your doorstep on a Saturday morning. No matter how compelling your arguments, they come back with the same dogma. Now I just have to read up on the 'ignore' functions on this board.

Bev doesn`t care one iota about pirates and or account stackers. I have called in a few times to report people that flaunt that they cheat while I pay. They have done nothing about any of my calls.

Some subs with PBXs or related phone system MAY not be able to attach phone lines to all their IRDs based on the ring equivelency loading (old phones, faxes, caller ID boxes, etc).

Just another point to consider when looking at trying to eliminate account splitting!!!

But my point is, that you will not be able to swap Dish's without a call to Express Vu.

I fail to see why you actually "need" that many Dish's, it is pretty easy to run 16 receivers off one dish.

You may "want" multiple Dish's but there is no need for them.

I don't know the answer either but people seem to argue every single side of it. I just don't know what people are expecting. I'd like BEV to maintain the policy, but not enforce it, like Starchoice does. Different rules for different companies I guess. Of course BEV is pressured more because of their much bigger size. SC stays under the radar most of the time.

This whole SAT thing is a joke, really.

Someone was calling from New York, NY (caller ID) and was registered to be living in BC. You know what SAT did ? They politely asked the customer if he were in the United States. He said no and there ya go, thank you for calling have a nice day. And beware, if SAT made contact with you even once, your account is tagged for life with memos and notes and each time you'll call to activate/deactivate/transfer a receiver, you are guilty until proven innocent. Actually, they even made it worst with the new MultiVu application. There is now a white-on-red message appearing brutally notifying the agent the account is targeted by SAT. Now how many accounts, out of all the people who are using Expressvu at two locations, were successfully targeted ?

The BEV CRM was not created to handle this cottage flip/flop option and it has to be done by hand each time, with the chance of an agent making a mistake and the client having to call back. This is ridiculous. Furthermore, there is no self-serve system to do that job, meaning bell loses ~5$ EACH TIME you call to flip/flop. That's right: each time you call Expressvu, it costs them 5$.

Good riddance for a stupid policy, some might say. I'm not against applying CRTC policies but come on, the least would be to give the customers adequate means to flip/flop their receivers.

If you had receivers hooked up to the phone line , nobody would ever call you to get receiver information.BEV has to do it to prevent account sharing.

Bigger in subs, sure, I thought maybe you meant bigger in pirates as well.

That disparity might be a contributor to the scrutiny. :(

Either because they don't know who the millions are that are stealing and they know who their customers are and for some, possible many, they are the same.
