Yes he is, which gives me some solace if a sequel is made, and he's involved, which he likely would be. I have yet to see him "mess up" a movie. I think the only movie he did that I felt just okay about was The Abyss. Everything else he's written/directed has been spot on.
 
I went to see it Wednesday. It was worth the wait. It's so beautiful to watch. I have to see it again!
 
I saw the 3D version today. I loved it. :) I can't wait for it to go to DVD. I was so busy gawking at everything that I probably missed some important dialogue.

It's funny...when I go to the theatre I almost always see people checking their Blackberries, phones...or they're talking and kids are whining. During Avatar I saw none of that and only one person around me actually got up to go to the washroom. I swear everyone just seemed mesmerized. I know I was! After awhile you just forget that you are watching CGI and believe these characters are just as real as any other actor on screen.

I agree, a sequel would ruin it. James Cameron is so creative I would prefer he move onto another new project. The only problem being...it takes him forever to develop a concept from scratch.
 
Nicely put! I couldn't agree more. A lot of people see the stuff happening in the world yet there are those who would cower and are afraid to stand and speak up. We come together during tragedy but when it comes down to standing up to the threat or the tirany (sp?) only a few will answer that call.

In the movie when it came down to the major fight to take down Hometree, some of the soldiers, you could tell by the looks on their faces that some didn't want to do the mission but they were soldiers so they couldn't back down. The only one that had any balls, so to speak, and go against the military was Michelle Rodriguez's character and she didn't care that she might die in the process. She stood up for what she believed in.

Part of me kept hoping that at least one other chopper would have turned against the unit but none of them did.



Exactly. In our world you're always gonna have the liberals, and the ones who refuse to change their ways on what they believe or be open minded. That's what was great about Jake Sully: He might've had his own beliefs but he was open to things. He called the Navi's religion by what they called it but at the same time he called it by the name he knew which was God.

I didn't find it preachy at all. If anything it showed the value that one can have with nature if they're open to it.

Just because I refuse to worship God in a church and would rather do it outside, connected to nature, that doesn't make me a pagan as some would like to believe. I just feel closer to God in the natural things he made. That's where my clarity comes from. I can't find that feeling in a church surrounded by a lot of people.

And that's what's great about the Navi: They connect to God through nature. That doesn't make them pagan. They just use what God (I have a hard time remembering the name they call it) has provided. They don't need the technological buildings to worship. The natural world is their church and that should be enough. It's because of that, that they are closer to God than we could even begin to imagine.

LOL I could go on and on about how our world is blind to all that is living, aside from people. I look at the Navi and they don't have roads or streets or actual buildings. They literally live off the land. In my wildest dreams that's how I invision our world but it's just a dream.
 
So true. I've seen it twice myself. It's just so good. I'm going to try and make time to see it one more time before it leaves the theatre (seeing it on the big screen is just so amazing) which I'm sure won't be anytime soon considering how well its doing.
 
:lol: Well this one took so long to make because Cameron had to wait for technology to catch up with his vision for the movie. Then once technology caught up they had to film via trial and error because they'd never made a movie this way before.

So theoritically once the script is completed it shouldn't take more than 2-3 years to film the sequel but we'll see. Hopefully Cameron won't have writers block and will be inspired very soon with some amazing story ideas for the sequels. :lol:
 
away to watch this movie in 3D on Saturday. The last great movie i saw was ~Slumdog Millionairs, I hope this one can keep up with it
 
A sequel would tarnish the movie. It was pretty amazing. Not the best in 30 years, IMO. But amazing. For this year. And for the technology, for this decade.

It's not about whether people have heart and soul. People had "heart and soul" during the Trail of Tears, Slavery and the Holocaust etc. It's about whether people have the courage to stand up and fight for what is right. I would argue that when it comes down to it most don't have that kind of courage. There were many people shown to be upset by the Navi's land being destroyed. Even the head suit looked upset by what he was seeing, but he did nothing to stop it. At the end of the day fear and self preservation will get the better of us (most of us) everytime. The suit of course was all about greed, the almighty dollar. The others, many who obviously didn't agree with what was happening (based on their reactions) were no doubt afraid of what the consequences would be if they expressed misgivings about what was happening.



I absolutely agree. What was beautiful about their culture was that it wasn't the brow beating that often times come with religion. Though their way of life had its traditions (like religion) its was extremely spiritual. How they connected to each other, the life and nature around them and their ancestors was an important part of their essence.
