you have to take it out of the music press context though, i know what you mean by garage rock revival because i had the free CD that came in NME; it was just a nice contrived label that sold magazines and recorRAB for a couple of years wasn't it
i'll stick to my guns and say that Vines were coming from a totally different angle - that first album was ridiculously 60s punctuated with some grunge screamers, i dont see where the Hives or the Strokes fit into the equation with them, probably because they don't!
Listening to the Strokes a helluva lot right now actually, first two albums are still f*cking amazing
