8PSK Conversion

Since every HD customer now has either a PVR, EHD or the capability of adding one, PPV channels could be limited to 1 per movie (multiple start times are no longer required). 50 channels becomes 10. Isn't teh current number of HD PPV more like 5 currently? (I have them locked out so don't see them in my guide).

:)

In an earlier post I stated that I thought the pq of MLB Extra Innings HD package has recently degraded. I am comparing the same channels and same sports broadcasters, before 8PSK conversion and after. I haven't noticed any pq loss on Sportsnet HD or TSN HD, just the extra cost hd baseball package before and after 8SPK conversion.

8 channels are currently being tested on Nimiq 82:

784 - TEST1 [(0X91)] added to Nimiq4 82W TP 30 Canada beam (Available)
785 - TEST2 [(0X91)] added to Nimiq4 82W TP 30 Canada beam (Available)
786 - TEST3 [(0X91)] added to Nimiq4 82W TP 30 Canada beam (Available)
787 - TEST4 [(0X91)] added to Nimiq4 82W TP 30 Canada beam (Available)
798 - JASN1 [(0X91)] added to Nimiq4 82W TP 14 Canada beam (Available)
799 - JASN2 [(0X91)] added to Nimiq4 82W TP 32 Canada beam (Available)
841 - JASN3 [(0X91)] added to Nimiq4 82W TP 25 Canada beam (Available)
874 - JASN4 [(0X91)] added to Nimiq4 82W TP 32 Canada beam (Available)

799 is expected to be T

I think it would be safe to assume that MPEG4/8PSK will carry twice as many channels as MPEG2/QPSK.
Since Bell switched to 3 HD channels per transponder a while ago (by quadrupling GOP, mostly) it will be 5-6 HD channels in MPEG4/8PSK after everything is said and done.

Nothing is actually being shown in 8PSK yet, still in testing mode. On a seperate note, I was at a local restaurant last night that was showing the Nascar race on FOX, but they were showing it off of Directv, and all I can say is the MPEG 4 quality was amazing. For those that think Bell's HD quality is good, the MPEG 4 on Directv blew Bell out of the water. No artifacts, very detailed, very sharp picture. Even on the 70 some inch screen they had. I wish that's the provider I had.

Yeah, I've seen a better picture on a CRT SD TV than the NBC HD hockey picture. Just terrible.

CBCs HD picture is just barely passable and it's not CBCs fault. There hockey night in Canada picture used to be terrific.

I thought it went pretty well really.

A replacement MPG4 6141 /6131 for an old 6000.

How would you sugest they handle the swaps when it comes to the 9200.?

Stamps / Argos last night was worst picture of the year (marcoblocking).
Up to now the games on TSN had been very good.

Actually, if they cram 4HD channel per TP instead of 3, each HD channel would have 9.9 Mbps (on average) instead of 10.9 Mbps (on average) currently. The PQ will definitely not improve, and it may get worse.

Transponder Changes:

Nimiq2/3 82W TP 05 Canada/US beam changed FEC from 7/8 to 2/3
Nimiq2/3 82W TP 05 Canada/US beam changed modulation scheme from QPSK to 8PSK
Nimiq2/3 82W TP 05 Canada/US beam changed symbol rate from 20000 MSPS to 21500 MSPS

Looks like Bell TV have started changing over to 8PSK.

8PSK is only being implemented on the HD Channels, so the models you mention will not be affected.

Maybe its just me, but do we really need CNN in HD?
It will be 16x9, then down to 4x3 for the various stories, unless they are filmed in HD...
I think they can put up better choices than CNN, but then again, I have heard a few people say they want it, so...
You can't please all the people, all the time
More HD is good, regardless of what it is, I guess

Aren't 1,2,6, 15, and 16 the transponders on 82 with SD channels? If they are, then the conversion is complete as SD channels will not switch.
