2007 Golden Globes - Discussion

I think award shows will always have snubs and jokes because they can't ever accomodate all the great works done by actors, actresses, directors, writers, etc...

People that vote for the Oscars and Golden Globes don't always actually see the films. I'm sure sometimes many actors, actresses, films, and tv shows get a lot of votes mainly on their name value.

No offense to Heroes, but if that show gets nominated then Battlestar Galactica deserves to be nominated as well.

I just wonder how many regular people have actually seen the movies that are nominated this year for the Golden Globe. I think have only seen two movies which are nominated: Bobby and The Departed.

I really want to see Babel!

I am so happy for Leonardo, Jennifer, and 'Little Miss Sunshine' :yay:

Johnny got a nom too! :yay:

Hugh Laurie better win!!!!!

Be forewarned. The Last King of Scotland features extreme graphic violence. There's one scene in particular, a torture sequence, that's extremely intense, a scene so violent and graphic I had to cover my eyes.

I'm still upset that Don Cheadle didn't win for Hotel Rwanda (yes, he played a real life person..but so what..his performance was breathtaking). What about Leo for The Aviator--I think he could/should have won for that performance--an Oscar that is, he did pick up a globe.

See I see some of your points. Jamie Foxx imitated Ray Charles, but I think that there are some actors who became their characters and didnt just imitate (Joaquin as Johnny Cash comes to mind as well as the two listed above)

Nayden---Russell didn't win because he flipped out at some award show and hit someone or something. I still love the man--but lordy that temper.

I have seen most of the nominated movies and, so far, my favourites are "The Departed" and "Babel".
I also liked "Little Miss Sunshine" and I'm glad it was nominated.

I wanted to kiss her because this is so true. When the "Last King of Scotland" came to Puerto Rico, it came only to the two Fine Arts theaters on the island (right now they are the only ones showing "Babel" and "The Fountain"). I don't feel like driving forever and back to see a movie. It breaks my heart when I keep missing movies like this because they only come to those two theaters that are not easy to get to.

Yet, I have crap like Little Man literally 10 minutes away.

Isn't the award for Foreign Language Film? They covered their butts with making it about language, not country, if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think I ever did post on the Babel thread---I actually really enjoyed the movie. It's not my number one favorite of the year--but it's in my top 5 (The Departed, Little Miss Sunshine, V for Vendetta, Babel, Pirates -which will probably be replaced by Dreamgirls when I see it)

As for Babel--I'm really excited about seeing the acting nods it got. For the best supporting actress category between the two actresses from Babel--I'd have to give it to Adriana Barraza. She was stunningly great in the movie. And finally Brad Pitt got a bit of love from the award show circuit. He's been noticibly missing from a few critics lists...and this was honestly the only movie I've ever actually enjoyed his work.

Clint Eastwood is a beast--what about Helen Mirren! She was nominated three times (1 for movies and 2 for tv)!

Hey Rockstar---it may have been the only movie you've seen this year--but at least you picked the best one of the year!

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is renowned for its idiocy. If you listen to press conferences given by various studios, producers, etc., the HFPA's questions are always inane, like "So what's your movie about?" It's embarassing.

A documentary was once done about the HFPA, and it's amazing at what a joke they really are. They're basically a closed off club of random people who have no real skill at reviewing movies, or the ability to talk about them intelligently.

Am I the only one that was pissed off that Clint Eastwood won for Best Foreign Film? I'm sorry but I don't think that he should even have been nominated and that includes Mel Gibson. I know it's the Hollywood Foreign Press but still... They are both American! This category is to honor those incredible film makers who aren't born and raised in the United States... Not for those already well established and award winning American directors that want to try something new. I'll be livid if he wins the Oscar in that category.

I'm seeing the Last King of Scotland tomorrow--can't wait. Hopefully it'll get the bad taste of Dreamgirls out of my mouth.

Ellen Pompeo she definatly deserved the nomination she is way to looked over and doesn't get the recognition she deserves! She did amazing work i season 2 of Greys

Patrick Dempsey i really hop he wins he definatly deserves it as well! He also did amazing work, especially with Ellen in Season 2 of Greys!

Greys anatomy should definatly win Best Drama but theres a whole lotta good competition all the Best Drama shows are amazing!

It's all about Meryl Streep, and if she keeps making wicked speeches that make me laugh and cheer, she can win all she wants.

I think the Oscar race will be more interesting this year because there won't be as much controversy as there was last year. I haven't seen that many of the nominated movies but I'd say that The Departed was the best movie of this year.

Sacha rules.
