2007 Golden Globes - Discussion

I've seen 5 of the main movies that are listed and have already planned on catching at least 3 more of them before the awards come out.

I'm a film nerd and my sister and I always try to see all the nominated movies. (Especially Oscar time) I'm not a big fan of voicing my opinion on a movie unless I've actually seen the film. There are other websites where this idea doesn't actually work with them (Cough*imdb*Cough)

:blinkie: :woot: for Hugh winning again :D, so happy

Shame that Jack didn't win :(, he deserved it, glad that Marty won best director

Mrs. Jolie is looking terrible tonight. Yet, it is a very awkward situation those award shows. I don't know... I'm not liking her very much tonight, not that she cares. But I care and she's not on my good graces for now. Maybe she's sick or maybe she's tired, but if not, then, stay at home next time, Jolie.

Crash definately deserved the Oscar for best picture. Besides, it's not like Brokeback Mountain was robbed. It did get best director and best screenplay. Crash was a big underdog to win best picture. I was shocked when it won best picture. I figured BBM would have won it. Crash was a realistic movie and one in which most people could relate to. You can't say that about Brokeback Mountain.

I don't see Beyonce winning the Golden Globe. She is a singer first and in a category with 4 other way more talented veteran actresses.

I agree, oscars shoudlnt be for imitating, they should be for doing something new and making the character ones own. I loved Leo in the Aviator, just like I loved Johnny Depp in PotC, now I havent seen mystic river s I cant comment on Sean Penns performance but Johnny Depp WAS Capt. Jack Sparrow, it was difficult to imagine that it wasnt a real life movie!
Crash I liked though, the story was amazing and the characters and the actings were great! Capote had me practically falling asleep halfway through, the story wasnt interesting and the characters werent either!

I love Toni Collette and would love for her to win.

Renee always always wins at the golden globes--so wouldn't be surprised to see her win.

But I agree---I'm pretty sure Meryl will get it.

Is it me or is this year's competition is a little bit weak?

I love Leo but did he need to be nominated twice in the same category. I'm afraid he'll lose because of the split vote. Plus why wasn't Ryan Gosling nominated. I haven't seen Half Nelson, but Ryan is always terrific, and all the critics raved about him when it opened.

Yay for Emily Blunt! Boo to Beyonce. I heard she's pretty decent in the movie, but decent is not awards worthy.

Yay for Ben Affleck. I thought Matt Damon would sneak though but I guess not.

Ellen Pompeo? Evengeline Lilly? I don't get it at all. No Kristen Bell or Lauren Graham, Jeanne Trippletorn. Boo

I like Katherine Heigl but I rather see Kate Walsh's name up there.

Collateral was awful. To me it was really slow for an "action" movie.

Same with Miami Vice:sick: we walked out. The camara work was atrocious. It felt like I was watching a bad documentary.

I guess that's a Michael Mann trademark. He needs to get out of the movie business because his stuff sucks bigtime

Truth be told, Jacob, most people don't care either way. You'd be surprised how may people aren't movie fans, or keep up with the latest releases or the awards shows and see things on DVD or cable long after the the hype has passed.

Jacob--I don't think that gives it away at all--considering it's all spelled out for the viewer within the first 10 minutes of the movie.

Nayden--I recommend seeing The Departed. I'm not normally a huge mob/gangster movie fan but I loved this movie so much. The acting from every single person is insanely good.

Not to give anything way but Leo is an undercover cop in the movie and Jack Nicholson is a gangster.

I agree, she wasnt that good in the Devil wears prade, but that girl Emily Blunt? Ive forgot her name, she was pretty good in it.
I loved Sacha's speach, Borat still hasnt come out in my country but I really wanna see it.
I watched The Departed last night before the awards, because I was so sure it was gonna win. I had The Departed and Babel but I chose to watch the departed! and the Babel won, so I dont know what Babel is about, Ill watch it in a few days, and also the last hour of 'Departed' kept me on my feet and even forgetting to breath at times, I dont think it was that great a movie!
But how could Leo lose? They soooo owe him an award, I mean hes been amazing in everything after 'Catch me if you can' (Not a big fan of the titanic days) and he definately deserved an award for the amount of emotion he showed for Bills role!
What movie was the actor who won in? who was his name? I knew it then, but now I just have a complete brain freeze cause Im so in shock!
Oh and who won supporting actress in a drama and actor? I think ive got amnesia cause Leo lost! :D

Totally agree with Don Cheadle and Leo... Two other great examples of actors who didn't imitate.

ROCKSTAR- Maybe Capote did lead to sparks... I'll have to tell him that! And I also agree with how many people can imitate Capote. My boyfriend does it really well and he by no means deserves an Oscar for it

I liked Meryl in the The Devil Wears Prada but I was a little bit surprised when she got the nod.

I don't think Crash deserved it. The movie is average. All the other movies in the category were better.

That Emily Blunt woman looked beautiful. Honestly, I never even heard of before last night. Is the Devil Wears Prada that good?

Rockstar, I definately know how you feel when your movie theater gets crappy movies but never shows quality interesting films. The one close to me was showing a piece of crap Code Name: The Cleaner but they decided not to have Children of Men.

A lot of people are probably always mad when these unknown independent movies win awards because they never get a chance to see them until they are on DVD or TV. I don't blame them though because we the fans have the right to see these movies and judge them for ourselves.

No offense to Dreamgirls but I'm kinda tired of seeing all these music biopics.

That's pretty similar to my top 5 minus Babel. And I'm thinking the same about Dreamgirls. I can't wait to see it!

I agree about the work done in Babel..........some teriffic performances. And I'm not a Brad fan, but he was really good and deserves the nom. It's a tough choice between Rinko and Adriana........both were great!

I'm happy for Jennifer too and for Johnny. :D

I haven't seen The Departed but the previews confused me. I'm like is Leo the bad guy or good guy, is Jack the bad guy or good guy. It looks like one of thsoe movies where they both play both sides:rolleyes: back and forth

I overall happy with the results, although I really wanted Leo to win for The Departed and I wanted the movie to win. I am a bit disappointed "Dreamgirls" won over "Little Miss Sunshine" but that okay because Dreamgirls was still a great movie. I am happy Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy won, the best parts of Dreamgirls. I am thrilled Meryl won, I knew she give a great speech. Boy, I do need to go and see some of these movies like "The Queen" and "Babel" though.

Then and the television side, I was thrilled of course America Ferrara and Ugly Betty won, and it just so nice to see a cast so grateful that they won. I was disappointed that Jeremy Piven and Justin Kirk lost to Jeremy Irons, but that's okay. I also mad Grey's Anatomy beat 24 but at least Patrick Dempsey didn't win. Hugh Laurie had a great speech but since I don't watch House, I would of prefer to see Michael C. Hall or Kiefer Sutherland win. While I don't like 30 Rock, I am fine with Alec Baldwin because he is the only reason the show is worth watching. I do wish Zach Braff pulled it off, because he is extremely overdue. Oh, I am glad Emily Blunt won as well because even though I never saw what tv movie she won, she was awesome in The Devil Wears Prada.

Am I the only one who want to bitchslap Angelina Jolie? She's acting all diva-ish on the red carpet like she could care less being there. I honestly am usually an Angie fan, but her behavior, or lack thereof here is really making me not like her.

I also kind of felt bad for Jennifer Aniston after hearing Brad going on and on about how they want to have hundreds of children. That's gotta hurt.

I was very happy for Meryl's win since she did a great job in her movie and her speech was hilarious.

I'm surprised that GA seems to have been shut out of the awards. Poor Katie Hiegl, I wanted her to win.
